Im buyin my car tomorow and it currently has no tax and i wont have my cover note come till monday to tax it. Does anyone no what the rules are? some people are telling me i have a week to tax it but if its not true i dont want to risk drivin it the weekend and have it taken of me. thanks

can't you give the money to the seller and ask him to use his insurance, assuming he's not cancelled it yet, to get the tax in the post office.

As for the law, if it's not taxed it's not taxed, no official period of grace as far as I know. Can't your insurance co email or fax your cover note to you ??


have a read on dvla.gov.uk should tell you on there...

I had a similar problem when i bought a new car and had to swap my insurance over, i expalined the problem to my insurance company, that i needed a cover note to tax it, they sent me to a local broker who they used, and the broker printed me a tempory cover note, so i could go tax the car before my actual cover note arrived in the post.

you cant drive a car with no tax on, as said above get a insurance cover via fax, thats what i done with the last car i bought.

dont believe anyone who says you have 'grace' time, these are the people who say you are allowed 10%+3mph over the speed limit lol

my insurance said they could fax or email it me but i tryed to tax a car like that before an they said no it had to be an origanal with the water marks e.t.c.

the previous owner isnt insured on it no more as it was took of the road in nov.

i couldnt find it on the dvla web site

mine was accepted fine at the post office, strange

how long ago did you last try?
