Anyone got one? are they alright on diesel and would you recommend one?

Seen one at £5500, 40k miles decent example 2001 seems a good price compared to the others about that age (probably as its an automatic and gold) but the mileage is a big big plus as i'm going to be doing 25k+ a year...so in a few yrs it'll be average miles.

My wife had one and she loved it to bits until a Clio hit it in the side when she was turning a corner and it rolled on its roof. She crawled out with only a sore back and cuts.

She would have another in a minute.

Yeah thats a big factor in my choice as one hit me up the arse whilst at a junction....I was in a daewoo matiz and it completely fucked the back end beyond belief and there was litterally a scuff on the bumper of the landy. The womans airbag didnt go off so it couldnt have been that fast but destroyed the little car.

Did she have auto or manual? I'm looking at an auto as I think sitting in motorway traffic with manual will piss me off over time and this one's cheap and super low mileage compared to others its age/price.

She had a manual Td4. It was very good on fuel compared to her Td5 Disco, had a better turning circle and also was faster....lol

Although saying that they are/were both the same colour.

what mpg did the td4 do? Its quoted as 40 ish on a run IIRC...sound about right?

Get a Proper 4x4...get a Disco or Defender lol!

 

I can't justify the extra diesel cost on 500+ miles a week...plus to get a disco or defender It puts them out of my price range or i'd get a high mileage one which tbh isnt really appealing as I need to do a fair few miles for my new job.

I'm also looking to trailer my track car to events and trackdays so it'd be killing 2 birds with 1 stone this way....although I wont know till the test drive tomorrow.

ok....fair point but I dont need a discovery or defender for what I want...Its doing 90% motorway miles and 10% towing a cossie so the most economical landrover imo is the freelander.

If I was being a proper old man I'd get a diesel estate car but I've always wanted a Landy secretly.

i got a petrol 02 freelander if ure interested 34k on the clock leather heated seats hard soft top etc i know its petrol but its all ways been good and i know they say headgasket but seems ok lol.Its me old dears by the way.

around the 5 mark mate its in really good nick like brand new ive been using it the last few weeks and is faultless.

 

The td4 engine is a bmw engine also shared with the rover 75. does about 35-40 to a gallon i think.
what spec is the car? there is S, GS or ES. S being the lowest, no alloys for a start, gs has 15s as standard and es has 16s as standard.
Good cars but check the warrenty repair work that may/will have been carried out on it.
Its a good price for the car in the colour and mileage.

the 1.8 petrol can blow head gaskets but if repaired PROPERLY then they are fine, drive like normal car ie dont kick the cunt out of it when stone cold and it will be fine

 

Also its a manual and silver lol not sure on model il look if your interested.

Hmmm I'm not sure now....just been on the trader and can get a decent estate diesel that'll do almost 70mpg :S for a bit less cash too so I might just be an old man and go for the more sensible option....I have the cossie for being a cunt in...lugging a fat old landrover 500 miles a week is gonna be a bit pointless long term :S

Id look for a different freelander, thats the base model. can pick up the higher spec models for similar cash if you look.

dont get an estate, you have wanted a landrover so buy one, they are good cars both on and off road

 

yeah but the 30mpg difference over a 500mile week makes a difference to my choice tbh..gotta be sensible about it and with 5k I'll get a good estate car that can still tow a cossie (at a push)

 

also doin a bit of research as to weither they run ok on veg and they are a pig to convert and you can't put a 50/50 mix in tank so would have to go on 100% pump diesel..........not an option..fuck gordon getting 80p a litre out of me

But you CAN run a 30/70 or even 40/60 mix if you wanted.

check out the current and last 2 issues of landrover monthly (LRM) for the full story on it.
with aldi being 49p a litre of veg oil you could make it work.

Running it on veg and getting decent mpg is a big factor in me getting a freelander or not so I need to be 100% on running it on veg.

seen a twin tank conversion for about 850 for the td4...pretty smart setup and i'd save that in 4 months running diesel so probs worth it as I could run on 90% diesel then

Gonna go see the td4 tomorrow and see if he'll drop a bit on the price...also see if I like it in the flesh.

both are higher mileage. but are top of the range models, with heated leather seats and air con and 6 disc cd player. MUCH better than the base model you posted up
I put in my postcode though to find them, so as i stay near glasgow, it may be a journey for you to see them if your interested in them.

 

Bought an astra estate (well nearly...going in morn to pay for it) with 40k miles for 4.5k bloody cracking car with all extras so unfortunately the freelander idea is now gone

they are total junk, it WILL fall apart around you and leave you with hefty repair bills.

diffs, subframes, diff mounts, transfer boxes, prop shafts, and anything electrical all fail!

then you have the traditional problems associated with the K series engines and the noise from the diesels.
