Default Pushbike Snobbery...

Seen it all today... Been out on the bike this afternoon, and nearing the end of my ride, probably 9 miles or so, I was riding up a straight section of road with a slight incline. Totally minding my own business going at a decent rate, when all of a sudden these 2 muppets on racers (or what ever they are called now) come flying past me, obviously making a point cuz as soon as they got passed they started laughing and slowed down... A few moments later a second group pf about 10 people came past, some said hello as they came past and I politly replied, but they way they said it I got the impression it was tounge in cheek!!!

WTF? I mean whats all that about? Ok you manage to be able to ride your pushbike faster then me, Who gives a flying Fu*k, at least I don't look a complete C**T doing it the process in Lycra shorts and a stupid hat... Goons

lol - i used to be a roadie and some of them are weirdo's - they have this thing about mountain bikers being unfit, posers in their baggy shorts n muddy t-shirts.

I can't really explain it.

I think that riding on the roads mile after mile just makes people turn into loonies lol.

A mate of mine entered a road race and at the starting line, cos he didn't have shaved legs people started murmering, watch out for the mountain biker etc etc.

Weird culture.

Another mate of mine was an ironman tri-athlete and he used to ride his mtb into work each day. Everytime he saw a roadie he used to specifically make sure that he blew the guy away - nothing more humiliating than a roading being blown away by a mtb'er.

I think there was a lad back in the 90's called Dave Baker or something - he was a MTB pro rider. He used to go on road training runs for endurance work, he would purposefully catch up the lads who were out training as a team on their road bikes, sit with them for a bit and then just fuck off up the road making them look slow, all the time on his knobly tires etc lol

So true - great feeling though I'm an MTB'er, but am going to be buying a CX bike soon to commute on
Completely agree that a lot of roadies are very strange! -

pmsl, we had this the other week at coed y brenan, doing the dragons back trail.

the group of lads i was with are of course much fitter than i, so they had to keep stopping for and this other bloke, who i was much fitter than - it doesnt sound possible but its true.

anyway, this group of superfit XC gays caught us up on a trail, and each in turn would shout RIIIIDEEEER and expected us to get the fuck out the way lol.

still, it was quite funny when we caught the bunch of pussys up on the downhill sections, they had at least 10 mins on us

It annoys me when they ride side by side, in groups making it difficult to pass (in the car)

Invite them off road, see who's laughing then! I have every respect for road riders but there's so many dickhead drivers around these days that i wouldnt feel safe on the road.
Mountain bokers can be just as fit, dont see the need for snobbery?

I ride a mountain bike, and when I am in the car and I see a racer, I put the window down, slow down to his pace and slowly, scarily say 'Get a car'.

All you have to say to roadbikers is Cadel Evans, he was an MTB'er and is now a top pro on the road.

Erm I remember Lance Armstrong being totally shit when he did some MTB races

Ultimate respect to any pro cyclist tho, i reckon any form of pro cycling is among the worlds toughest sports

That's not the main reason, its actually hygeine. If you come off and graze/cut your legs, the hair folicles can harbour dirt and cause subsequent infection. I raced for about 6 years, week in week out and did it for a while and now have gorilla legs!

I have had it many times and just turn it around. I have been sat at lights on my MTB (I have full slicks) and had a group pull up around me and say "not on that, you are not riding with us". Firstly, they pulled up next to me, not the other way round, secondly, its a public road. Sat with them with about 10kms to piss them off and no matter how fast they went, I sat with them.

Have entered many time trials on my MTB and ride fairly regularly on the road. I enjoy riding past them or sticking with them, pisses them off more than anything. Arrogance is disgusting.

I know years back when I used to ride properly the attitude of roadies is beyond naff. Something about riding a road bik ethat seems to mess your head up.

MTBers are far more relaxed and friendly on the whole. Then you get some bike riders that are just complete cnuts full stop

Also smooth legs are easier to massage. Getting a post race massage with hairy legs hurts like hell 'cause as well as the discomfort of the massage the hairs get plucked out to

There used to be a MTB'er down my local prom, whenever I went down he would talk to you for hours, and I mean, hours.

On the road what can you get done for when going through a red light on a bike? Today I had a copper run over the road at me shouting something so I said ok, gave him a thumb and then put my head down and tanked it off without looking at him, could swear he wanted me to stop for something?

I dont understand why roadies seem to thing they are better/fitter riders. A road bike is so effortless to ride on the road, even compared to a mtb with slicks on.

Best thing to do is catch them back up and pull the front brake on the bike in front, bring down the whole pack of them
