Default If i...........

put my T4 on my car what sort of boost should i run it at if my t34 was running at 34psi ( so its running safe ) till i get the rest of my bits on and get the car setup....?

As i have just blown another t34 but need the car on the roads for another week till i eather get the head gasket done on my dicovery or put me corrado g60 back on the roads.....

Im asking because i know the t4 flows a lot more air so it will need less psi to flow the same as the t34...

Anyone

don't fit it until its time to get mapped. ecu only sees the boost pressure not the airflow. as far as the ecu is concerned it will not be able to to tell the difference between the 20 psi of a t34 & 20 psi of the t4. t4 gives the greater airflow so it will run lean.

Get your tuner to send you a rough chip for the same spec as yours with a T4 then get it mapped ASAP basically

Or I stand by my first comment

why cant you run it really low, 6-7 PSI? It will be a slow a fook but should be safe

i always thought the ecu could tell how muh air was going in? Reason i think this is because the ambient temperature really makes a difference to the amount of air being produced, alot more in the cold winter, so surely the ecu can change fueling to suit this to a certain degree.

Because the T4 produces more air

7psi on a T4 is more air than 7psi than a T34!

If what someone said about is only reading pressure and not vol. of air is true, then it would soon melt

But this just changes the psi does it not?

but im interested in how it reacts to volume hanges due to hot/cold weather. we all know cold air is muh denser, the eu must adjust to this?

id have thought the air is denser so more volume, maby i am wrong

mmmmmmmm 21psi...

the only reason i did not want to get it resetup is cause im changing the spec bigtime.....T4 , cams , solid lifters, double springs, swidish inlet, 83lb injectors, megasquirt ecu, ect ect and i was not going to put the t4 on till i put everything on.......but when i thought the turbo had gone i was just going to stick it on .....

My plan was T4 set up, but then came the big valve head, solid lifters, cams . Ran it for a bit as it had been off the road for a wee while.
Then came the new shell, coil overs, wheels and brakes.

Hopefully get round to setting up in the next couple of months

It's hard to answer exactly what you should run because the 2 turbos act so differently.

i'd guess around 20psi would make the same max output as a T34 at say 32psi.

but throughout the rev range the fuelling will be out by miles i'd expect.

i would only fit it and drive it off boost personally....on the way to my tuner to get a new chip fitted or have it remapped.

at best you'll be using way too much fuel and losing power, at worst you'll melt the engine!

cant you just run it with the wastegate held open permanently, so no boost and is just acting like an n.a. engine..?
