Default legal question

hi all,

I have a question a few of you may be able to answer, basically ive just bought a car to break so it has no tax or insurance. I thought i would take it down the local morrisons tonight to get something ( about 1.2 mile drive), so i go in the shop for about 30 mins and when i come out there's this police man walking around it on the radio etc so i went back inside lol and waited until he went. Im just wondering if i can get prosecuted for anything?
the car was in a private car park and they had not seen it being driven on the road? they didnt sit and wait for me etc.

i know i was silly to drive it with no tax/insurance but i thought i would be okay and i wasnt driving like a dick.

Regards
Dave

It has got MOT, as part of the deal i said he could rebate his tax as my intenetion was to strip it.

I havnt got the logbook yet, but the previosu owner said its been sent away.

I have now picked the car up in my recovery truck, what i was thinking of saying is i bought it and the guy dropped it off there and i went to pick it up later etc.

good luck to you mate... but you are gonna be liable! and if you do go down the route of saying it was dropped off, then mr morrisons might want a word with you... my advice would be give it a go, but if it fails, then just hold your hands up... took a risk and it fucked you over mate... good luck either way though!

okay mate cheers for your useful input, i wasnt driving like a dick it was in a town for 1.5 miles, hardly gunna reach mega speeds, its the 1st time ive done it and will be the last.

Its okay for people to come on here and say the did 130-140-150 etc. and for people to give them loadsa respect but when i did this which is a lot less likey to hurt/crash into anyone etc i get called a wanker.

I have no fucking respect for anyone who is cuntish enough to drive an uninsured car - wether it be 15 yards or 15 miles - if you twat someone or something, who is going to pay? I'm pretty sure your wallet won't run to the hundreds of thousands of pounds that people will claim from you

So its okay for people to go silly speeds on a motorway? ive been browsing this forum for quite a while and ive never seen you respond to
" i did 140 on my private track...." thread in the same way which is a lot more dangerous and stupid, putting peoples lives at risk. whearas driving a fukin car through a town at 25 mph isnt going to kill anyone or run up hundred of thousands is it? so fuk off.

I seem to recall something about a car park that is open to the public being treated the same as a public road for insurance requirements.

The good news is, the driver who hit your mum was insured. The bad news is, he was going so fast she died. Hit someone at 25mph without insurance and it's going to be a long and stress full process. Hit someone at 140mph with insurance and it will be a very short and painfull death. I know which one I would rather hit me.

I'm going to leave the moral ''drive without insurance and you'll go to hell'' stuff out.

I expect you'll get your 6 points. Why should the rest of us pay not to hit people in our cars? Plus I'd be very VERY shocked if it was the first time you'd ever driven uninsured.

As for a legal answer: Morrisons would probably have cctv, thus they'd probably be able to see you driving in said vehicle, getting out of the vehicle, officer outside vehicle...and you then driving off in the vehicle. No magistrate would believe that you'd been ''storing'' your car in morrisons. Especially if the logbook had already been transferred by that point when the previous owner sent the paperwork off...implying your cars been at the supermarket all week potentially?! All week in a public car park for your new untaxed car? Nobody is going to be silly enough surely...as it'd have got towed? Especially if you own a recovery truck...and therefore the means to tow it prior to that point?

It's about as watertight as Jim Royle's string vest, that one.

Look m8 if your not on the cctv your gonna be ok
plenty of reasons u can say its there.
Was dropped off etc and u used recovery truck to collect etc etc

You know u were silly driving with no ins so have 1 of these

But i am afraid m8 u will get a hard time from some people in this board for you short trip... just insure it and do 140mph on your private test track

You need to be part of the "inner circle " of posters to get away with that

Why do you blatantly break the law & then come on here looking for a wayout, I suppose if you had killed someones child on the way you would still be looking for a way-out. If you cant take the punishment dont do the crime.

Just what I was gonna say.

Ring the rozzers say u've been away from for a few days and the car was gone when you got back. You were going to Morrissons in your recovery truck for some bread and saw it, so thought u'd bring that home instead

Say you were bringing the car home on a trailer when the trailer developed a puncture and having no way of repairing it you thought it wise to leave the car in the car park, rather than risking the couple of miles to home, while you took it to be repaired as it was still driveable with no weight on it. Once puncture was repaired you went back and picked it back up and took it home.

Surely they would be a little more lenient if you try the "I did it for safety reasons". Well thats if they believe you.

Shame it wasn't taxed otherwise there was 2 other get out clauses:

Friends car, it broke down, so you collected it with your recovery truck.

OR, find a mate with a trade policy who can get you off the hook as they would be covered to drive it

Also don't be sure he didn't wait for you. He could have parked round the corner and saw you drive past...

I haven't read all of this but from my history the police never chase things up like that and i would hope that they have more inportant things to do than chase up a car parked in a car park with no tax. If they catch up with you. you say the recovery truck it was on broke down so you unloaded it as you needed to get the recovery truck recovered. and then you went back to get it once the truck was fixed.

But if there is cctv on the roads of your house to the shop's your FUCKED.

i did genuinely pick it up on my recovery truck and that was after he'd fucked off, does anyone know if you can check a car has tax on the internet? because the guy might not have rebated his tax yet

find a mate with trade plates (if you can), and get them to back you up. lust tell them the car was driven to Morrisons with the plates on and that you had taken them with you into the shop because there were some dodgy people hanging about.
if they do follow it up just be careful that there is no CCTV footage of you driving the car in.

SO ! why did you take THAT car to the shops and not your recovery truck in the first place , all legal this recovery truck of yours is it ???

Oh well at least you had time to think about what you did was wrong on your mile and a half walk home

Hope the Police trace you, prosecute you and make you look like a lying cunt in court by showing cctv records , and then maybe the judge will go a bit harder on you

Honestly Dave YD - who gives a fuck what most of the chumps on here say.

Unlucky you got caught out matey - we have all done some pretty interesting things in our cars that the law wouldn't approve of. I think u will be lucky and not hear anything more about it. Good way to learn the lesson tho!

I once drove my car with no insurance and no tax (it was laying up in the garage whilst I was broke) the rozzers walked past it at 1am and clocked the lack of tax (why oh why didn't I just park it somewhere less obvious lol) - it caused me quite alot of hard work to get away with it but I managed.

Lesson firmly learned.

Good luck and try n keep ur nose clean

Surely if you have a recovery truck then you'd have a traders policy which will enable you to drive any or most cars with even the basic third party Insurance?
