Default manifold/atmospheric sensor??

Hi this sensor is baffling me I dont know what it is but its the little black sensor on the left hand side if ur standing in front of the car with the bonnet up look at the middle left bit below the water tank it has 3 wires into it, but the hose type thing that comes out of the other end on my fez leads to nowhere and is connected to nowhere im told it might be a manifold or atmospheric airsensor but where does it go? the car has been converted to run on t3 set up maybe this was disconnected in the process I cant seem to find a detailed diagram of the engine bay on the net anyone any idea
The car stalled on me the other day and wudnt run properly until i let the car turn off for a minute then it was alright again so im guessing this is the problem as the bloke in the car parts shop reckons its just guessing the pressure or sumink,
cheers
