Hey there, applied to be a prison officer a few weeks ago and have just been invited to a recuritment assessement day.
Could anyone tell me what happens on one of these days, i've looked online and it says a bit, but i was wondering if any one whos actually been could give me a more detailed account?

My uncle used to be the governor of Dartmoor prison, went there for Christmas one year, very strange experience.

 

Thats pretty hard core in there isnt it?! I know prisons not gonna be nice but thats where Bronson is isnt it?! Sounds special!

However isnt Durham the place NOT TO BE!!

 

one of my dads mate is one, think hes something like the 2nd longest serving officier been in some of the bad ones, some of the stories he tells are think hes at leeds now

My old next door neighbour is an officer at Aylesbury young offenders inst and he had some very interesting stories. He's come home with cracked ribs before now.......

He's also told of some horror stories of what young kids have done that doesn't even make the news

Having said that, he does enjoy it!!!

curious as to what the wages are like....

i start at vinney green secure unit on wednesday - a young offenders place in bristol. anyone heard of it? some nasty cases in there so i hear. should be interesting, im not looking forward to my first couple of weeks though im sure itll get easier and the kids in there will ease up after a while.

 

young offenders is allot worse than the cons jail cos there all out to make a name for themselves whereas the older ones normaly just want to get there heads down & get on with it

 

i fancy doing that how do i get started

I work in a similar work enviroment within police custody it is a real team job and you have to keep your wits about you. Some proper wrong uns in this world and you would be dealing with every kind of them on a daily basis..fights/self harm/suicide attempts , dirty protesters if things like this float the boat then its the job for you.

The assesment day is a basic muliple choice test, maths, problem solving etc, and then a face to face interview, questions about yourself, just to see your outlook on certain aspects and to gather a liitle insight about you.

 

Ive applyed for the prison same job but its at northallerton about 16miles from where i live. Im a mechanic and i just want to get out of the trade cause its shit. I love cars but hate working on them day in day out.

 

I'm the other side of the fence, I work for the services company that does all the IT support for HMPS. Some of the things we've seen and get asked to setup, wow, make your eyes water.

 

Take yourself through the dingle in liverpool, get yourself some experience of who you will be expected to keep control of.

I've applied for Lancaster Farms which is a young offenders one as my 1st choice, and 2 Adult prisons near Leyland.

The nearest assessment centre to me is Wakefield, was hoping it would be just down the road

Gonna book the latest assessment away as possible, give me more time to get fitter
