ok chaps how hard is this to do?
have heard that the 2 bolts behind the engine at the top of the box are a pain in the rs but are there any time saving tips that i should know about before starting this or any special tools i'll need?
will probably be using a ramp if i can work my may in to using a friends boss's workshop for the day!

Anyone know the part number for the 4x4 g'box oil??
local dealership can't find it on their system!

the oil for the box is specific to the MT75 box and even ford now state they use a different one, but it's easily noticable when the gears start to crunch
but you ned to remove the gear stick first
then the exhaust and props and starter and arb before you can remove the mount but remember to undo the bellhousing bolts before removing the mount so that everything comes off nice and easy
and if you replace the bolts tht hold the engine crossmember in place with long bits of threaded rod you can move the engine up and down a bit more to give you more clearance, just remembr to undo the steering intermidiate shaft first
but you ned to remove the gear stick first

do you have to remove the arb?
was a right b1atch to get back in when i polybushed the front end.
dojj do you know which oil is better, the one that the above part number refers to or the newer one that ford now recommend?
And I've now heard 75/90 fully synthetic is good to use!
and also how much do you need?
can't seem to find my manual cd anywhere atm!

just undo it from the chassis to let th ebox drop down enough
as for the il, i can't remember off hand which one it is but ford have changed their numbers for the specific one so you'd need to find someone who knows what it is

i was told to use fully synthetic Castrol TAF-X 75W90
(not sure if its still called by the same name as i think some castrol oils have had recent name changes!!!)
think the same oil is used for the gearbox and diffs? but CHECK and confirm with other people before using to make sure!!!
when you remove or replace the gbox, be sure to check pipes for the heater/rad etc as these pipes tend to crack (when the engine moves they get squished and creased) causing coolant to leak from them etc

good luck, all should go well and you'll end up with a nicely serviced gearbox

Im also wanting to know what oil to put in my 4x4 cossie gearbox. I work in a garage and we use 75/90 fully sythetic. If its ok to use this i will but if not i will use the proper oil what ever that is. So do people use automatic transmission fluid for the diffs.
