this engine has no cover on it... should a 2004 tdci engine have a cover over it...???

the guys in ford said it could well be the flywheel... i find that hard to believe

the car is 04 with 48k on it (hardly excessive)
the rattle sounds plasticy and vibrating rather than metallic
there are no probs with clutch, shuddering vibrating etc
the starter motor seems 100%

was advised by someoneelse that it could be tensioners on the fan belt or something... anyone comeacross this??

cheers

My peugoet HDI had to have a new bottom pulley as they are a cushion drive thingy majig and that made a plasticy clacking sound on idle. Obnly about 50 quid though.
have a look at the bottom pulley area for metal filings. You need to change it if it is that as if it shear youll have no alternatoer and probably no water pumping round

You need to change the bottom pulley, alternator belt, and alt. belt tensioner.

(Ford have brought out an upgraded pulley to stop the vibration)

They're quite easy to do
