Default Do you need a chip to run a t3

Im running a fiesta turbo 1.6 cvh with an escort t3 upgrade on ofab . it had ofac with a 165 chip but the ecu burnt out so i did the sensable thing and upgraded.
my mate told me that to run a t3 you need a t3 chip but others have assured me that any chip will do .
whats the difference !
aparently a t3 chip tells the ecu to fuel a bit later because the t3 spins up later than the t2 and a 195 chip wont do this ,all it will do is take the limiter off the fuel. Not tell it when to fuel.
i dont know who to listen to i just need some one who is running a frst with a t3 to tell me what they've done.

any advice is appreciated.

If you do one thing only, and thats never ask that lad for advice again

When you said upgraded it isn't really an upgrade as such with OFAB it was just a hurdle in the Map but i'm sure MSD have overcome this now.

When you get your car chipped by a reputable company like MotorSport Development they map the car to what other goodies it has for example front mount cooler and stg 2 T3 and a high lift cam.

Take your car to a good tuners and let them sort it for you as playing with stuff you don't fully understand nearly always results in failure.

you don't need a chip to run a t3, the ofab will run it fine but you will need to get the the fueling setup at the very least

as i said to you jamie, u need correct chip for your set up, a second hand chip is no good unless you are certain its for your spec.

By the sounds of it you just need a remap which would be be cheaper than a new chip, ring around a few of the good tuners and see what they charge.

My old fiesta ran OFAB on a T3. I had a custom chip done by MSD to match the spec. I then had the fuelling checked by another company to insure the pressure etc... was spot on. It ran like a dream.

Do it properly and get a decent chip, then get it set up.
