cooking oil, Escort diesel
hi,
i'm looking at buying a cheap runabout, either a fiesta or escort diesel. I'm just wondering if i would be able to run it on cooking oil?
Does anyone have any information on what be best for me to do?
also, would the same apply for a TD??
thanks

scratch that question. yes you can
i ran it on my mondeo TD. then only thing i will add is that if its cold to run a mix of oil and diesel
TDDI supposedly can run in but TDCI cant

my 2litre Di vectra did but to be honest I gave up ages ago as its alot of effort (corn oil only came in 1 litre bottles) I looked a twat in sainsburys with 20 bottles a week, and alot of looks in the carpark filling up before topping with 30 litres of diesel. It was 56p a bottle though so did work out cheaper but for the hastle I gave up
corn oil was not the ideal, rapeseed is thinner and therefor works better.
i found i lost at most 2mpg, but then its half the price of diesel, so even if you did half your normal mpg it would be worth it ( if your running 100% oil ).
i dont mind going into tescos and getting it. if you go every couple of days and just get a few it doesnt look so stupid.
what makes life even worse it that i filled up my mondeo on tuesday night. got a 50/50mix in thereso about Ł45 and the car did 3 miles and died on me wdnesday morning. so i have about 62 litres in the car and 20 llitres ready for the next time i was going to fill up ready in the boot

the pump lol
wasnt the oil that caused the problem though, the pump wasnt the best when i got the car hence i didnt mind trying the oil. i knew it was going to go sooner or later anyway
bio diesels can do the pump in, well most pumps because bio diesel is basicly a solvent it eats away at the rubber seals in the pump

I believe that with the TDDI its pump dependant, they used about three different pumps, the lucas/cav pumps are shit and will more or less fail straight away, if its a bosch pump I think your laughing, not sure which is on mine havent had chance to look yet.
