Default Antivirus / Internet Security Q

Morning

I'm looking to renew my Antivirus etc and am looking for some advice.

My computers are behind a router with a hardware firewall.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have 2 PC's so free applications would be a bonus, but decent protection is my main requirement

Cheers!

Neil.

Have the same set up as you. I find <<AVAST>> to be better than AVG.

On the recommendations of some people on here, and a couple of mates who run a server from home for business use, I'm on NOD32.

None of that AVG slowing the computer down whilst it runs nonsense. I actually was on AVG before, removed it, and now have this. Superb.

NOD32 is on a par with Kaspersky, was the best about 6 months ago but now Kaspersky has taken the lead.

In another 6 months someone else will probably be top, it all moves very fast in security.

I'd recommend Avast. Its free, autoupdates, easy to configure and turn off the notification options and just let it get on with it. Is not a resource hog either that I've noticed.

Better and less intensive than AVG. NOD32 is good, but its not free either.

do the antivirus developers not write the viruses as well?

the developers of anti virus software must be the most able to write viruses in the first place.

lets say vendor X writes a new virus and just before they try and infect the world with it, they provide a patch for thier own product to immunise those computers using their software. would be good for business if it was seen that only product X computers survived

Cool - some food for thoguht there

I was previously using Kaspersky - you used to get a free month's trial then just uninstall/re-install and get another month's trial

Looks like they've put a stop to it now. I was considering buying it legitamately?

Cheers!

Neil.

The new NOD32 is very good and makes for a sweet running PC as RichardPON says.

I've got the older version on my PC and just trying out the newer 'smart security' version on my laptop.. seems nice so far.

I use AVG, with the daily scan disabled - just run it when I want.
