Default Escort Cosworth knock sensor

How important is a knock sensor - I have just found out my car doesn't have one?

Thanks

it depends if the program on the chip in the ecu is expecting to see one.

if not then it without one it will be ok. even if there was one fitted but the program didn't use the input from it it would make no difference.

Im going to be using a standard chip while I run the engine in - I take it a standard chip will expect there to be a knock sensor? Will it run ok without one?

Thanks

not sure, it might only run in limp mode with the 4K rev limit with a sensor not reading.

that assumes you are running the standard P8 ecu?

if your loom has the connection just borrow/buy a sensor and tie it out of the way somewhere if your chip requires a knock sensor reading to run properly.

Well its quite nice to have a knock sensor installed, if it sence knocking it could retard the ignition and save your engine.

In past I had a speak about knock sensor whith MSD, they sad that car will run whithout difference, but ECU couldn't retard the ignition if engine will start to knock.
