Default calling all diesel mechanics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi folks
ive noticed the pajero using a huge amount of oil while travelling back from the uk recently while pulling a trailer, the intake side of the engine is wet with oil, there is a actuator thing on top of the inlet manifold which appears to be leaking oil down the manifold and when i took this item off today ive noticed that inside the intercooler pipes and hoses that they are really full of oil,

i have been using 50% cooking oil recently and i wonder have i fucked the engine, have i fucked the turbo or what could it be

would the actualtor thing leak enough oil to wet all that side of the engine

thanks

dave

I DID THINK THE TRAILER WAS SILVER AT ONE STAGE, LOL

its fine to take cap off while running, its the wetness of the turbo side of the engine that got me as i pulled over near llandudno and saw fumes in the headlight area, twas then i discovered the oil burning or rather smoldering on the hot engine, it wasnt dangerous or anything so i kept at a handier pace than i had been (75mph down to 55)

if it was the engine id imaging the engine block would be dry an it would just be using oil as a consumption?????

its the 2.8 auto, the oil seems to be pissing out of the actuator type thing that is bolted on to the manifild, im wondering would the oil be forced out the hose from the top mounted intercooler which pops onto the manifold from the top at 90 degrees, would it be forcing its way thru this and running down the block

is it chuffing out blue smoke?! and is there alot of play in the turbo? i ask as its normal to find some oil in the boost pipes etc, obviously if the intercoolers half full with the stuff theres an issue but its nothing to panic about straight away if theres a film of it in the boost pipes.

my advice is drench the engine and any oily areas in halfords spray on engine degreaser, jet wash all the shit off then let it dry. once its clean and dry, run the engine and see if you can see where its coming from.
