Default Can of worms opening, please go easy....

ok, i've just had my Cossie 2wd rebuilt to a proper st3, 500 cooler, T34 etc and got a good 350bhp...

my dilemma is this. Should I have done this on a 4x4 Saff?

I just dont feel like I wanna 'really' push it round roundabouts etc. I aint no pussy, I have a vast background with RWD, road cars (high power mk2's, XR4i, Capri) and succesful ameteur motorsport wins, but this power with a turbo and RWD just feels lethal...

surely point to point involving short blasts and roundabouts (most 'races' on privates roads) a 4x4 would kill a 2wd?

sure, 2wd is fine for showboating, and I can hang it out same as the next man...

how much quicker are 2wd over 4x4 in a straight line with he same power?

so...

at 350bhp, which do you prefer, 2wd or 4x4?

I prefer 2wd to 4x4 but if your worried about it then yes you should have spent your money on a 4x4

Had 4x4 saph before my 2wd,prefer 2wd

4X4 Saph was safe in all conditions,2wd handles better in dry IMO.

loads of difference from a rwd saph to a 4*4 saph

approx figures are 270 @ wheels rwd vs 220 @ wheels 4*4 on a 350 engine

I should have added I only been ragging this car for a couple of days and the suspension is quite tired.

maybe i'll get used to it. Its just doesnt fill me with confindence like I think a 4x4 would

If you want an easy drag car or don't have the confidence buy 4x4, if you want a track car or huge grins go 2wd IMO. 2wd has nowhere near the traction off the line as a 4x4, but when it gets traction they leave the same spec 4x4s for dead. It's about what you want/feel you can handle at the end of the day. If you drive 2wds with respect in dodgy conditions it's fine. It's when you give it big welly in silly situations that you get into trouble. You need to learn how to drive them before hooning around, then you'll be fine. I love the rear end action and challenge that's why I bought the MR2 T and then the BM, but if I was scared of a N/A MR2 like my mate i'd go 4x4 deffo

to be honest i think 2wds are safer for this reason my mate has a 4x4 saph cos and drives it in the wet as he does in the dry(fast round bends) where as i have a 2wd and drive faster than him in the dry but dont even bother to put me foot down in the wet because i am fully aware that it is a bit sketchy, i am waiting for he to have an off to be honest. So my conclusion is people not just my mate quite a few other people i know as well get a false sense of security in a 4x4
