Default Dogs and 6th senses ???

My little Jack Russel Charlie is confusing the crap out of me

Our postie doesnt arrive the same time everday but every day 15 minutes before he pops the letters through the letterbox he starts growling quietly to himself in anticipation

How does he know hes on his way ?

The postie arrives on foot so its not as if he hears a van passing etc

Also, he doesnt do it on a sunday because theres no post. I just presumed he counted the days.

But, during the xmas holidays theres obviously been no post on certain days during the week ? He hasnt started the his usual ritual of growling

How the feck does he know the posties not coming ????????????????

few piccies of the little mite;

He can smell the posties BO ?

He can recognise his footsteps using his super dog hearing ?

The postie whistles a happy tune as he's on his round and the dog can here him ?

The postie rings him prior to heading for your house

ears ago we had a pet dog, my mum and dad would go on holiday 3 or 4 times a year.

Everytime an hour before they got back, the dog would sit on the chair and stare out of the window at the drive, only did it just before they got back, yet they would go away for different periods of time?

My misses mums dog did the same with me, she would sit by the window watching just before I would get there

Very odd.

Plus, they say a goldfish has a memory of 7 seconds, yet our fish dances as soon as you get his fish food out and place it near the bowl?

Yes, it must be part of their survival instinct.

It starts in reverse:

Postman puts letters through door for the first time that the dog was in the house, as this happens the dog recalls noises it heard seconds before and links them.
Next day repeat the process, but the dog now confirms the last noises and starts to build up earlier noises.
Each day the postman arrives the noises the dog picks up get further away until a maximum distance for the area, in your case it must be 15mins away at postman walking speed.

The postman closes gates, pushes against things, walks up stairs etc.
There is a set of unique noises associated with the arrival of the postman.

The dog's a witch! Just to be certain, tie him in a sack with some bricks and throw him in the pond - if he floats he's definitely a witch.

If he drowns it must be some other explanation!

They pick up all the advanced signs for that as well,

Like:

"Where's the F**king passports gone"
"Where did you put the tickets"
"I've got nothing (new) to wear"
"I told you to check the taxi was booked"

My dog is the same with the ECHO, I'm 100% sure he knows when it's about ten minutes away, and when we are told it's been canclled he doesen't bother going to the door at all.

He also knows when are kitten, his best mate, is outside and barks like mad.... but when it's my other car the one he hates he will sleep by the door as if to say 'Fuck off, nobody can hear you'.

Benni.
