Default tyres-what do you use?

ive asked this before but cant find the old post.

i have a bmw m5 and am looking to replace the tyres.

at the mo it has continentals on the front and one conti and one fulda on the rear.

im thinking this isnt the best for any up and coming track days
im fucked if im buying a spare set of wheels and tyres just for track days so i need a some road tyres that will perform well on track.

rears are 275/35x18! fronts are slighty thinner.

I know of an M3 and he likes Toyo T1R's, as seen him at several track days.

R888s, Dunlop D02J, Some Kumho Ecsta track tyres.

Pretty much nothing else if you're keen on track, F1s etc will be destroyed in no time with a heavy car and lots of power.

Pilot sport 2's are a good all round tyre for road and occasional track use ,or pilot sport cups work well but only in the dry and when warmed up

and if you got a costco near you they can usuall suppply and fit about 20 quid a tyre cheaper than my tyre can deliver them only for

and thats edited to add they were 20 quid a tyre cheaper on the 205/50/15's and ever more on my 17s so would imagine a better saving on your ones.there usually so cheap as they only stock michellin
and they all come fitted balanced and new valves etc and none of the pish of trying to charge you more

eagle F1 hard wearing ???

fuck me what do you class as quick wearing,,, 300 miles ?

my f1 eagles lasted about 6k miles on road,,,,,, i im sure the paper sticker is harder wearing than the actual tyres

THOUGH,in the wet they ARE the bollox,,,,,, the conti's i got now do ok to be fair but getting my bm sideways in the wet was still a challenge with em

Eagle NCT5's are my personal favourite, I actually felt they where quicker in the wet than the dry. My 1.6 ford focus was quicker than a focus RS coming out of corners because of my tire specification. Don't expect them to last long though, as you can't have everything.

Toyo T1Rs are absolutely crap on track, they hardly have any grip on bends and it felt like the car was constantly rolling on to the tyre sidewalls and sliding all the time. They also squeal like a stuck pig all the time. Worst set of tyres I've ever had the misfortune to use.

I have always found Eagle F1s to be far superior and hard-wearing too. Had no probs with them on my escos from doing 30 + trackdays... only had to replace 2 tyres from excessive wear on the edges in all that time.

For a road tyre on the Evo, I have F1s but on my track wheels it's the T1Rs, but they will be binned soon for a set of something decent.
