are impreza engines 'safe'? - UPDATE - fixed!
the bolt through the eccentric idler pulley snapped in half last night and lost belt tension
it had moved to the outside edge of one cam pulley (bottom right as you stand in front of the engine bay looking into it) and was still turning it though.
are these engines safe, or am i likely to have bent valves on that side?
the other side of the engine still had both cams in sync

it's nearly as easy to take the head off as it is to get the compression tester in there
might have the engine out and freshen it up - it has done 120k so is probably due new gaskets

i had a 4 cam turbo that had a smack on the drivers side
that broke 1 pulley and bent another one, it pulled the timing belt
so hard it pulled the threads outa shape holding some tensioners,
it had a new belt and pulleys/the block machining and tapping and by turning over by hand all seemed to be ok, so we started it and it was fine, still pooped meself though
on them engines, valves do valves not pistons into valves

Must admit i'm not a fan but i think that's got more to do with the chav element.
That the majority of chav's own one or aspire to own one.

Ive seen a rally car impreza that had a smash on the front end and the cam covers were smashed and the cam pulleys which were plastic were smashed to causing damage to the engine. Plastic pulleys whats that all about. A shit idea if you ask me.

do you a swap then
saw an old boy in a subaru pickup this morning and stopped him to see if he would sell. would be the ideal time to transplant everything and freshen up the engine with new bearings and head gaskets while it's out.
offered him a grand but he wouldn't go for it. said the pikeys pay more than that to have them for hair coursing
told me where he lives though, daft cunt. might have to go and help myself one night

A lad i work with has been rebuilding an impreza for his friend cause it has been smashed up on the drivers side front. He said the same about the plastic pulleys been smashed to,cause the car has been hit that hard on the drivers side front. Thats a road car to.
no rich, not standard. but not particularly loud either.
i will have a look on their website at what their limit is and how they measure it though, as we have the gear in work that i can use to do the same just to be on the safeside
