Spadge,
The Candy finishes are Ł70 + the cost of the machining or you can polish yourself. I'm not sure about the black without checking, as the powder "may" be cheaper, but at least you know a worse case scenario....
The high cost is due to the amount of time it takes to mask all the bits off that you don't want the powder coating to adhere to. If you wanted it all one colour, it would be considerably cheaper.

Jules,
I am just concerned that the finish will not give such a good edge and that the machining might chip the finish on some points of the edges. I obviously dare not experiment with a customer's cam cover to confirm this - you want to volunteer yours?

.Lol i'll pass on that cheers
Back to these covers whats the lead time from me posting it to getting it back all bufty
Jules,
Two weeks max, usually quicker.
Phil,
You cannot do that, as the inner bead (that is coated) is the same height as the exposed metal flat areas, so would also end up without it's coating
. Just ask PON, he fucked his up by trying to do this with a sander
. Even masking it all off and using one of those Black and Decker Mice takes a good few hours - it is more economical to machine in labour costs.
