Default engine rebuilding,

hi im looking for advice regarding cvh rebuilding, i dont want to know how to do it, just the parts you need , main components you have to replace, and ones that will be ok to use,
ie, my 107k mile cvh,191bhp and tired engine. rebuilding to same sort of spec but with a piper cam,and a stg 1 turbo
i know it might look stupid to some of you to ask a question like this, but i want to start trying to get some more parts im going to need,

i have a new sump pan,
new gaskets for the top end already, headbolts ect,
i am going to get a new water pump, and oil pump, cambelt tentioner, piper cam,and the stg 1 turbo, valves ect, thats all sorted

its the bottom end i need advice about,

what does it involve rebuilding the bottom end, i havent a clue to be honest,

i guess the block is ok as it is, ?

do you need a new crankshaft.?????????
i guess i need conrods, .as i dont trust mine ,and shit myself, every time i cane it,apart from the crank and rods, what else will i need,
do pistons need replacing,???????????
the reason for the rebuild is just for peace of mind i dont snap a rod, its been chipped for a while now, i have 100 reliability from the engine, but i dont think i should push my luck, i want to run it down the pod, but think its going to blow up, and bottle it, untill i get it rebuilt.that is

cheers for advice guys,
regards dave

I would send components such as Crank/Block and pistons to your local machine shop. This way they can check to ensure your bores/pistons are still within tolerences also check end float on crank ect ect.

Once I get around to mine, Depending on what feedback I get on my engine I will deffo replace the Mains and big end shells again machine shop will be able to advice if you need over size shell ect.

But you never now what you may need. Pistons could be worn, little ends may have play in them.

thats propper helpfull lee. cheers mate,

what are main and big end shells, in easy terms,??????(for someone stupid like myself )

everything else i needed to know, you have explained, cheers

i didnt want to go out and buy ,a rebuilt engine complete, if i could have used stuff from mine, but i guess after 107k its not realy worth messing about, if i want it to last, and not go bang, i should just stop being a tight arse and get ,the rebuilt engine, ????

To be honest I would loook at the options of a fully built engine also. Loads of the gang do em on here and for very good money. Im looking into a few options my self.
I expect u are like me keen to do it for your self but there is a very very bad side to it however. I have rebuilt the head on mine 3 times to the book and every time it has had a problem once rebuilt.
The other good point here is you have any problems they will be willing to help you out and should offer a warrentyl

As for your shells mate,

They are basically a bearing which goes between:
Mains - Block to Crank
Big Ends - Crank to Conrod big ends.

Speak to some of the traders on here.

cheers again lee,

hi brad, did you go to sea today,? we went to east wittering, it was cold , and the pub was crap,

to be honest jamsport will rebuild it, but b4 i buy one of the rebuilt engines they sell, to my spec, i was thinking about getting this one rebuilt, rather than exchange it for one, but if i would have to get all that stuff done to the crank, ect, i think it would be cheaper to do it there way,

as for l&r,, i know lambournes( s.p ? ) well mate. i used to have a right laugh, with the old gits there, when i took all the vauxhall combo deisel engines there, from steeles , and they were Ł good top place , L&R

Crank needs to be checked for oval...out of round. If it is, then it needs grinding and the appropriate oversized bearing shells supplied. New bearing cap bolts too. Bores need to be measured and if worn(likely at that miles) then they need to be honed and appropriate sized pistons supplied. New oil pump, seals, bolts, belts, etc obviously on the list.

I'd just get your current engine rebuilt mate. That way you keep all the original engine/number etc and keep the car original.

Unless I had a car like Barrys 3dr from the club, i wouldn't go out of my way to rebuild the old engine!

If you say you're never gonna sell, who gives a fook anyways, you've built the car!
