People just dont have the time, the space, or the ability.

Or just want the performance and dont give a fuck about the rest.

I mean Ding, you didnt do every lil bit on your car yourself.

I think there more respect/credit to people whos put thought and effort into it rather than just thrown cash at someone to do it, but still.

Ive done most of mine myself, entire spec is mine, but engine is being built by someone as i cant, custom bits are being fabricated as i cant, and obv getting mapped by someone as i cant

But as much as poss, inc entire detailed spec and sourcing of parts is done by me as i think i know best

Cause its JUST a car......

If building its your thing then great, if driving it to shows is your thing/if ragging it up the Qtr's your thing/driving it on track/taking it for a leasurly drive on Sunday afternoons......

Whatever......if you enjoy it why not just get on with it and if your enthusiactic about doing what your doing and having fun with like minded individuals all the better!

think theres a line, i dont like to see mag write ups of people that have gone to such and such a firm and said i want this this this and this doing, heres a blank cheque. if your goign to do that, just go out and buy a faster car to start with ffs?!

the one and only thing my car, and my previous car went to someone else was for welding, but now i can weld i do it all myself. the engine conversion, suspension, brakes, and everything else ive done i did on my driveway or in the garage.

i think the only other thing id leave to pro's is engine and gearbox rebuilds. but id still get stuck in and change the fewker.

whats everyone else like on their motors?

Dingy i can afford to pay someone else but DONT as i piss bored being semi retired so do everything bar machining myself

BUT without the help of professionals advice me and YOU know we'd have fucked up.

Some pro's are more willing to help than others...take Mark for example, you cannot say he may not know much re mapping...but i can tell YOU different....even though his reply makes it look like he having a go at diyers..i can see his point...except i wont cry if i fuck up....can you say the same as you dissed Ahmed the mapper that every other tuner copied...PERIOD.

Dunno where to sit on this one- but I agree with the points that some people dont have the expertise.

In all fairness tho- u can learn them. For example- I can change the gearbox on my car and clutch and also pretty much all of the major components.

The knowledge I dont have is putting the engine together properly or how to weld or how to set the components up- Thats why I pay people to do it or ask for their help.

Been down both roads and have had work done in the past by most well known tuners/Cossie specialists. Definatly get greater satisfaction knowing that bar the mapping i have re-built my car at least once on my own and i feel i do a better job than most of the so called experts that i have visited! Would probably own a bimmer or something if i didn't enjoy modifying and improving the Cossie as for me that is more enjoyable than driving it 90% of the time!

Id seriously take a look at the sorry state of my life if getting respect from a bunch of car saddos from around the UK was a majorly important part of my life

Cars are fucking ace, but i do stuff myself as i can and dont wana pay someone else to, and spec it myself as i think i know best not for any other reason.

Same as owning the car in the first place, its for my fun, not to impress a bunch of people i couldnt give a flying fuck about and mostly would be embarresed to be seen with

The person who does it all themself and gets the results for less money deserves more credit, but activley going out to seek the credit (from a bunch of strange men) in the first place is just a bit lame I reckon.

fucking beats me why do you all have a go at dingy? theres some fucking nobbish behaviour on here at times

the people whove co,mmented dont know ding OR his car let alone having been in it!!

end of the day i like a bit of diy and all i'll say is know your limitations, dont try to overstep them and appreciate others actually do know better than you (or you think you do)

learning bits is fair enough BUT we aint all destined to know everything about everything, if we were there would be no "specialists"

When building a car capable of over 180mph you can not afford for anything to not be done right. DIY is cool if your 100% sure that you can do it just as good as a tuner however certain things are not worth taking the risk at this level.
