Default Bought Myself A Focus RS Finally...

Finally got my hands on a focus rs... after saying for 8 months that Im gonna buy one...

18000 miles, one owner, stitched seats, pink trumpet engine thingy, colour coded handles etc...

Car is in scotland, edinburgh to be precise and ive gotta go over prob some day next week or the week after to pick it up

The car only has a bluefin and has just recently been put on the car, what else is recommened for these little buggers? Id be wanting to take it to around 280bhp. Thing is i dont want the exhaust to be loud as fook... could you get a custom performance exhaust made with the standard backbox do ya think?

Just stick with the original system for a bit, but make sure you de-cat / sports cat it.

The standard system isn`t all that restrictive and you get a decent increase in noise when you take the cat out anyway.

The cat on these is right after the turbo is it?

First off bluefin and de-cat together.. A lot of people rate the dreamscience as a form of re-map too.. Then see how you get on, you may decide to go for a manifold after that ... or maybe an uprated Forge actuator ... or maybe an uprated chargecooler rad ... or if you`re into driving hard all day on track a front mounted intercooler And so it goes on

All starts to become personal preference and what you want exactly from the car.
But the above mods should see your 280bhp target

Also would recommend that you make sure that you have the `AE` map on your car ( from Ford ) as it is more preferable in most people`s opinion ( including mine )

Hope this helps and doesn`t confuse!!

Surely the "AE" map would just be over written by the bluefin anyway?

Ive read about the "AE" and "AF" is it maps? But whats the difference?

Bluefin stills uses the original base map that`s on the ECU, in the FRS case it`s AE or AF..

There are some negligable differences between the two, but AF does suffer from a notorious mis-fire at about 4500 - 5000 rpm which is frustrating, and bluefin / increase in boost only emphasises this. AE only really has poorer cold starting and slightly worse MPG , but to me it`s not really an issue and the car feels `stronger` with the AE map IMO

How do I check which map the car has? is it possible to still take it to ford and get them to change the map to "AE"

Your local dealer `may` be able to help, but don`t count on it...

Get onto the Focus RS section on the RSOC BB and ask for Lami and or Carl re: AE map .. They have the equipment to do the job.. Just make sure you do this before you start modding!!! Otherwise it may mean getting Bluefins reset etc

The only person whos anal about ae and af maps is kev h! .

Go for a mongoose system with decat, forge diverter valve, gen2 kn filter, ford motorsport manifold and a boost controller.... theres about 280-300 bhp in my experience and a 1/4 in aprox 13.5

Crowds.

Hmm ... as said, i`d try the local dealers. They should be able to source the disk that AE is on.. ( IMO it`s just finding someone that can be bothered to do this ) Good luck dude

At the end of the day Ryan, it`s not the end of the world if you have AF.. as long as you`re happy with your car that`s what matters!

Enjoy it, i have mine for the last 3 years

Take alook at the stickers around the drivers door area, this should have AE or AF written on it. Ford should have swapped the stickers if they put the cars on AF.

Very good cars imo, Come to life with De-Cat and Bluefin, Makes them even better with Manifold. Focus RS section on RSOC is your best bet for info.

That`s true Nash but many dealers didn`t do this! Viewed a few FRS`s for people now and have looked bit silly because of this

But as a rule you should be right mate

I've been told by a few people the standard exhaust is good & not very restrictive, the restriction is in the cat & manifold,, speak to Andy RST, he has a standard exhaust with a tobular manifold, it sounds nice, sporty but not to chavy

as said get on the RSOC bb, the focus RS room is busy, good bunch & very helpfull

Yep the standard exhaust system with a de-cat and tublar manifold sounds classy, quiet off boost and nice on boost with a tiny little pop from it at low revs when coming down the rev range.
