Default how hard to cossie a mk2

Jt wondering how hard it would be and what was needed to convert a standard rs2000 to accept cossie running gear.

I know you need a new transmission tunnel and aparently you need to 4 link the rear end? but i aint sure what the fuck 4 linking is tbh

4 linking is where it has 4 mounting points,2 on the car and 2 on the axle.

better to 6 link it like mine.

realistically how much you looking to do 1 and who can 6 link the back axle and for how much?

I might be able to get a supposedly mint rs2000 flat front with tarmac arch's for 2600 which has got me temted tbh

You wont see any change out of 10k

Infact depending on what route you go down with you will be lucky to see any out of 20k

you don't have to do the back end mark, an lsd is advicable, but you can get away with the standard stuff, it works just not aswell as a 5/6 link setup

Alps Pacino

bite his arm off if you can get it for that!

you will need a decent axle to take the power...Ł1500-Ł3500 depending on spec etc..

4 link will do depending on what you will be doing with the car.

depends what bits you fit.

Ł800 for a pair of Bilstein fron struts alone.

it all adds up...i know.

So 2600 is cheap for a flat front with a set of brand new mini lites and all the original engine etc to go back in it?

I might just get it and put the rs2k motor in and have it as a standard rs2k tbh

Best you go and get some prices on having a shell done properly then

Shell can be anything upto 10k painted

Axle 1k-4k

Engine and box Ł1500 to ?

Other bits - 1k to ?

Wheels, suspension, seats, tanks,

Even with a cheap shell, and I mean cheap I doubt you'll see any change out of 10k for a useable Mk2 Escort

Alps Pacino

very cheap for a RS2000 in good condition.

take a look on ebay.

this one started off at 4k.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-ESCORT-MK...QQcmdZViewItem

or, if you want a decent shell.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Escort-MK...QQcmdZViewItem

thats why the cars are worth so much.

Shall we add up what your shell cost to buy, then fabrication then paint and minus that from 10k ?

I bet there isn't that much change

I dont want a full on monster just a cossie powered mk2 300bhp ish, i was under the impression the shells were decent enough and didnt need 10k spending on them to make them accept a cossie motor or am i missing something?

the shell will be not strong enough, there too old and will need strengthing up,hence the cage etc..

you need a decent axle with uprated shafts, lsd, brakes etc..., decent susp, brakes, fuel suppy, the intercooler/radiator is Ł1k plus from Pro-Alloy.

i suppose you can do it cheaply, but you still need the car/parts to cope with the power etc...

it will be worth it in the end as the cars are fetching stupid amounts of money.

The problem is how decent is it

Its quite hard to find a genuinelly alright shell, I paid top money for one, then had it dipped and luckily it was as solid as advertised.

Scrote (The original) with the black RS2000 had 400hp on a what I believe was a standard RS shell, I know its been well messed with this year but his certainly was proof that you can do it on smaller budget.

I suspect he had it all linked up for a good reason now though.

I even think he was running or still is running a Atlas with original shafts etc.. just chopped down obviously.

a lad i knew had a mk.1 on stadard rs2000 running gear with the cosworth engine,he done a track day and it was not very good as it was only driving one wheel at the back as there was no lsd.

his was about 250 bhp iirc, but he never really drove it in anger,if he would of had, then things would of broke.

you can do the conversion cheap, yes, but if you want to drive it proper, the main reason for fitting the engine then you will need the decent parts for it.

deffo buy that car though if its a decent one.

Gaz, his name is Paul and he worked for Gartac for over 20 years,he does all types of conversions too.

maybe Andy Gallager or Steve Scott may be better fora focus conversion as they both have done it plenty of times.

They all fit fine so I'm told mate, I did query this when I spoke to Pro Alloy.

My only worry is that the IC isn't the biggest, they claim its good upto 600hp which I'm not convinced about, thank god for nitrous as I'm not buying another
