Awesome in-car short videos (NEED sound)- LOTS (2more!)
From D1 in Japan on a veeery fast track, 4th gear stuff, amazing shit, sooooo fast, faster than most of us could drive it normally, and they make it seem easy, only 30secs long each, great quality too.
Cool to see how they all drive different too.
Watch them in FULL screen, pic quality is good enough for that, and the RX7 one especially is nuts in that view, looks like a game of Ridge Racer or summat, hardly seems real its so nuts!
Kazamas S15- Check out the sequential box

Ken Nomuras Blitz R34- Check him near the end of the vid waving at someone out the window while drifting at 100+ in 4th

Daigos Chaser- Sound nearly gets me semi'd up, lol
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wzyqsH9SbAE
Masaos RX7- Sounds mental, and sooo responsive, nothing like a piston engine!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc1HjOMHpZI
Hibinos AE86- NO thats NOT the standard engine
That genuinley looks frightening, lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cje8jbKdQ5Q
Tezukas Bee-R R32- Check out the massive bangs on gearchanges and rev limit
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IctMl9xMGKU
The DrooP AE86- 1.6 20valve on Throttle Bodies with Nitrous. Fucking BRUTAL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lvpweuPfAQ
Suenega in a RWD Impreza, a 2door badass looking one too
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OaBbChwVT7I

Cool as fuck and proper skill.
But,
Is he really moving at over a ton? It seems to be just all wheelspin and he's only been moving for a few seconds? What do you recon the actual speed is, or is it deffo that?
But,

SteveC- They have speed camera etc round the track, you see on the full DVDs the speed, it will be 85-110mph there id guess.
Patsy- Sorry, im dumb, its this one...

Dov- you HAVE a drift car, its in your sig, a LOT of people on here have perfectly good drift cars!

I love those old Corrolas, my mate had one set-up for drifting and although it had standard power it was suprisingly easy to drift.
Yeah, they properly silly quick.
No "normal" weight (ie 1100-1200kg 2litres, ie the stripped 200SX's, Scoobies, etc etc) are much under 500bhp, some 600+
The bigger cars like the Chasers, Skylines, etc etc are usually 600+
And then you got the 86s which are anything from 170bhp to mental power ones like Hibinos one which is as powerful as most the 1200kg cars but weighs more like 800!
All the cars barring the AE86s run 255 wide or wider semi slick track tyres (ie R888s or similar), Nomura R34 ran 275s last time I saw the car in the flesh, and that was 2 years ago.
You can see in the vid of Hibinos car for example, they run normal ratio boxes, and he has full grip when doing the run up to the beginning of the drifting, but is in 4th gear within about 6seconds!
A lot of em run under 1minute laps round Tsukuba, and that is mentally fast for any car, even a 4wd.

Do these guys crash more regularly than say, WRC drivers? How do you imagine a WRC driver would get on if they entered a drifting comp against the top drifters?
(Sorry for all the Q's, not too clued up on drifting, but VERY impressive!)
Like a SPAZ i messed up again, put the Ueo vid twice instead of the Inose S15 one...
Check out what gear is is in as he initiates the drift... 5th

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kCjYU6i8ktM
He properly flying
EDIT- Just realise i fucked up again, messed up the 2door Impreza one, its this one
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OaBbChwVT7I
ALSO, FUCK! I didnt watch it in full screen before, MUCH better, esp the RX7! Looks properly unbelivable, like a computer game, wouldnt think a real car could be like that!
Chez--
A lot of the top Jap drivers are SuperGT (ie GT racing, LeMans stuff) drivers as well as drifters, but usually were drifting first, as most japs grow up doing it for fun like boyracers fanny about in the UK.
No race/rally driver ive ever seen has been able to jump in to a drift car and be good, Tiff Needell (whos famous for drifting and is ex-F1 and GT Racing) tried the other year and got his ass totally kicked in the UK, and the Jap guys are on another level to them.
Any driving talent is an advantage, but as its an alien concept still it takes some practice to say the least. I dont think any pro race or rally driver could just jump in and do it, and enough try.
There a few pro race drivers who compete in EDC in the UK, but they get beat by the normal folk mostly, and the only one who does well is the one who had been drifting more of his life than racing.
About the power, heres the enginebay of Hibinos AE86, so yep, 450bhp+ by looks of it! In an 800kg car!

Cheers for the info pal!
One thing for next year is to deffo go to a round of the EDC and maybe get an old shitter of a sierra to have a go myself. Prob make a tool of myself, but will have fun doing so!

Fuck EDC (well dont, its mint, go there too), if you wanna see amazing shit, get to Teeside in May, ProDrift (ie the Irish series) are doing a European series next year, and Rd2 is at Teeside.
Amazing cars there, better than EDC.
But yeah, get a shitbox sierra, and get out there going mental, you will crash, lots, i do all the time, but its only way u learn!

One post made me laugh for ages:

"Probably food."

WHY has this thread been moved to this spazzy room nobody looks at?
You can, but still need to use clutch. They widely available.

Every box i've ever come across has pissy little teeth on the synchros - the speed the shifters operate at will mash them to bits - even on clutched shifts from what i've seen of them...
Not saying it can't be done - just from the cars i've spent most time working on...

Only trouble is they cane standard boxes (aparantly) Can't imagine my gti-r would enjoy one
