Default The difference between a 205 block and a 500 block

Hello can anyone tell me what to look for on a 500 block to see that its been changed from a 205
I know they are thicker is it the numbers stamp on them and would you say they are as good as a 200 block
Thanks

Original rs500 205 block has smaller "freezing caps" on the side of the block. otherwise similar to the 200 block

I never realised that on new 500 blocks the hook that fouls the alternator drop bracket is still present - I assumed thet were deleted from the mould not cut off after.

hhhmmmmm, me too??? Here's a pic of mine before we re-assembled it - two core plugs can be seen and the 205 is still on the block etc...

I'm no expert but I think the 200 block was developed from this but was not as radical - as this is for racing primarily.

Cheers,

Andy

The 205 YBD block was a development of the YBB 205 block. Included thicker walls and had bigger balls so it could be wound up to 500bhp.

The 200 block was a further development of the YBD 205 block, and included all the enhancements from it too.

Yes its a genuine YBD numbered one mate. Proper history etc. to go with it. Later ones may be different but this is what the first ones looked like on the early cars.

Heres a couple more mate - it had a smaller turbo when it came out and I got a replacement T4 here... so you'll notice the altenator drop bracket fitted in the second pic to accomodate it. I also coloured the core plug gold to show it up a bit. You can't see the flippin things too easily once its all back in!
