Just found out that my electric bills at work have a standing charge of nearly £3 per day
What is it for? Anyone?

Its the rental for the cable to get the electricity to your place
To be honest, I thought that standing charges were dropped years ago
While I have your attention - do you stock or can you obtain ferodo DS2500 brake pads for any application?

look at it like a mobile phone contract...
with pay as you go there is no standing charge but calls and texts cost more.
With a contact you pay a monthly fee but calls and texts are alot cheaper.
Same with gas and electric.
You will have a lower unit rate beacuse you pay a standing charge...

Good analogy.
I know someone who swapped to a new provider with "no standing charge" but the effect was that his bills went up overall due to the price per unit.

i work for scottish power part time selling gas and electric whilst im at uni
there is no dif in annual bills between SC and NSC if u are an averge user.
standing charge - u will be charged a set rate every day plus one rate only for each gas and elec unit u use.
No standing charge - u will be charged a higher rate for the first 225kwh elec used in the quarter and 1143 for gas used in the quarter. Over and above these ammounts u will be charged a lower rate, usually much lower.
pay attention to the unit rates and not whether it is NSC or SC
if u are a really low user use NSC
