Default pre load on my actuator wot would u do??

ok nearly finished fitting my .55 exhaust housing,re fitted my actuator but the pre-load is mega i.e the end of the rod is a few mm away from the wastegate rod had to get a foot pump to pull it over!!now this car has been live mapped, she is getting another live map next week,i think that is way to much preload would u back the actuator off until its at the half moon mark?or leave it alone and tell them when i get it mapped about the pre-load??

half moon is where they should be. when i got my car from paul was trying to hold 36 psi surge city

actuator was a whole hole past the arm so much to pull it off any pulling it about it broke both the mounting bolts of the actuator

personally i would put it to half moon

I would lower the amount of preload until you have it set up

Better to be safe than sorry.

put it back to half moon then tell your mapper about it even though before it gets mapped that should be one of there checks before mapping it

just wondering how having the rod as tight as poss will bring the boost in any earlier.. ? i cant get my head round it.. i understand the tighter you go the more boost it will hold but cant see how it will spin up any sooner..
thanks..

it wont if the actuator is spec correctly, the wastegate sealing correctly, and a good boost controller is used.

it may just be a case of the new exhaust housing has the wastegate arm welded in a slightly different position, just back it off and wait till its mapped, obviously you wont be able to run any sort of boost with a different ex housing to map anyway.......

i see that but surely as long as the wastegate is shut the turbo cant produce boost any earlier no mater how tightly closed the gate is as long as it dont leak.. i cant see how a boost controller can make a turbo produce boost any earlier than a closed wastegate.

Think its a case of putting as much pre load on as you can to stop wasegate creep when the boost starts to come in. Might not be as big a problem on smaller turbos but on something like Euans T4 when the boost build rapidly , having more force to keep the wastgate shut will help it build boost quicker.

your exactly right Neil...

cos my car is tuned on a rolling road I can observe what the waste gate does as the boost comes in...

We set mine so the wastegate stays fully closed for as long as possible to help the mid range.
