Default 0 to 155 and stopping in 0.8 of a mile good or not ?

got a private bit of road i use its 0.8 of a mile and theres a bend at the start so cant gun in second or arse just kicks out and i can get 155 and stop and im 2 up. theres a bit more braking left aswell so could get 160 i think at a real push.
and before anyone asks ive checked my speedo against a tom tom sat nav at set speeds so i know whats what with the speedo reading.

just wondered if that was good or not so good for my saph ?
my car spec is in my sig.

thanks guys

That sounds good mate but its really the bit from 170 onwards that is a struggle for most cossies as ACTS rise and power drops and you start to cover alot more ground as the speeds get higher

i know what your saying mate. on my mild limiter i should be doing in theory 180 and on hard limiter at 8k should be 185. ive read on here when you do your top speed runs at the events but what is the length of road you get for the run without braking ?

The distances we quote for the top speed runs are including a standing start and braking to about 40 mph for a bend.

think its 1.7 miles.

i dunno mate only had it a couple of months never been to pod either. i would hope it would be in the 11s. problem is getting of the line, full power isnt until 5500 to 7800 rpm and major traction loss in 1st and second after that its relentless pull.
what lump you got in that granada im not sure must be a beast to be in the 10s

A lot of the cars at TOTB that run 11's or maybe slightly slower, where only pulling 160mph at a standing mile....with braking after that.
Some maybe a bit higher....

So pulling similar speeds in 0.8mile, and stopped.....well, it is quite a lot.

Its a supercharged V8....

i dont know mate but thats what ive done once with my best mate and once with my uncle. checked my speedo with tom tom in car at holding 50 mph tom tom said 51, at holding 100 tom tom said 103 so with my speedo at 150 tom tom would be 155 in theory unless tom tom sat navs are innacurate. and measured the distance by car milometer which cant be far out over that short distance.

i wouldnt fancy doing quarter mile runs as of the line would just be a knightmare. where do you do your timed abd speed checked 1 mile runs ?

Elvington airfield, TOTB.

I dont do shit like that on public roads. Far too dangerous.

the GPS/Sat Nav should be accurate.

Euans gearing hasn't changed with that box iirc, very slightly if it has.

I doubt your car would see 180 though on the top speed trials, simply not enough power going on what others have needed to achieve that.

I've probably used that private road of yours too at some point

I'll have to let you know next time were all out as I'd like to see a cossy out with my jap follower mates

i know the car will see 7800 rpm in fifth which i think is 180 but dont know what distance i need to do it.

do you remember lee martins g reg white 2wd saph ? that was only stage 3 but was good for over 170

whereas mt last stage 3 saph would struugle to do 155 burners old one

and the old 3 door that would pull of the speedo and that was only running 26 or 28 psi.

youve have pm aswell mate

I "think" my gearing has shortened slighty with the new box with 192 being 8k in 5th on my tyres/wheels.

Car is back at AVA just now to see what 8k in 5th really is as we can test it on the rollers

Prep startinf for daddy thrash already

Scooby slayer, as Jonny says there have been alot of guys running T4 spec engines that think 180 odd is easy at one of the strips but its alot harder than it looks, hope you get to come give it a go tho

i dont think its easy mate and its blow engine up teratory aswell but i know she can do it. all i need for peace of mind is a afr gauge. but weather id have enough road to do it at one of the events i dont know. i would of thought id be mighty close in 1.5 mile run. where and when does this daddy thrash take place mate ?

its at woodbridge as far as I know and its takes place within the next month or so.

Rod is your man for top speed stuff as he can usually guess pretty accuratly what each car will do.

Thanks...bit grip is still an issue....

I still take it easy on the launches due to lack of grip.

Almost considering some ET Streets now....but maybe for next year. Im hoping to get out once more this year if I can get my engine probs sorted....then finally I can start to improve on last years times !!!!

While checking air temps last nite I did 173 on gps in 0.8 of a mile, starting from 30 mph in 3rd gear but didnt stop.

prob could stop from that speed within 0.2 of a mile or less.

Data logging says 6905 rpm in 5th gear.

hope this helps scooby slayer

My Garmin Nuvi 310 read the same speed of 191mph at the end of the standing mile, as Straightliners timing gear at 190.7mph, and I was still accelerating.

No real steady speed at any point there.

without my braking i would guess it was between 0.6 and 0.7 of a mile for me to get to 155. still got a way to go before i can keep up with you mate

going by that hopefully i should have atleast 400 bhp atw.
il post my graphs once ive been on the rollers

As a fairly accurate guide in a 2wd Saff

500bhp will see 180mph
600bhp 190mph
720bhp 200mph
840bhp 206mph
900bhp 210mph
1000bhp maybe 213/214mph

The gearing would have to be spot bollix to achieve these times. Its all very well to say you will pull the Limiter in 5th but is Power falling at that point if so after 170ish you hopes will disapear im afraid. Only 11 Cossies have ever pulled 180 in 1.5miles & hundreds have failed many claiming over 600bhp im afaid. CA Temps after about 30secs on the throttle claim most victims ask people like Porkie. Topspeed runs sound easy, they aint.

Rod, how much difference will it make it I launch the car opposed to just doing a nice easy start like last year?
