Been tempted since day 1 with 1 of these but have yet to even have a go on 1 !
how good are they ?
what distance do the controllers work up to 10/12 foot or more ?
how good are the games/graphics ?
xmas is coming and waiting to see what deals are like if the feedback comes back GOOD

 

Had my first go on one last week, played Motorstorm and the graphics are superb, thats coming from someone who's spent £££'s on his gaming pc

Was a mention off someone off here that there will be a 50-100quid price drop for the run-up to christmas...

a mate has bought one and fifa is excellent. He doesnt have a HDTV to get the best graphics but they still llok good
Better value than a 360 IMO as HD (bluray) built in, built in wireless and free online gaming compared to 40 a year for 360, plus game and gamestation are doing some good deals on them atm

Was told by a friend who is a chartered accountaint working for Sony that there are rumors of a price drop around Xmas time to £250 - £300 mark to bring it in line with Xbox

 

I fancy one, was gonna wait till after Xmas till the prices dropped! be good if they dropped before tho, cant wait for GTA and Gran Turismo

 

That's the only reason I want one, Gran Turismo!

they are superb.. mainly use mine for its blue-ray player.. but, purchased FIFA the other day and the online tornament is quality especially when you are as good as me..

but gaming wise,....im soooooo bored of colin mc rae dirt, and i will not be spending any money until a favourite title is released,..ie GT5, or GTA5 etc..

You played Dirt online? There's something about the Quattro doing the FULL Pikes Peak in! Lot's of fun, i'm not even half way through championship mode yet but love online mode, just got another three podiums

 

ps3 cause of the blu-ray and it's wireless aswell

the 360 Elite only has got a hdmi and a 120gb hard disk over the old 360
the hd-player is an add on and will cost about £100ish plus ur £40 for online gaming

and will the 360 elite keep breaking like the old one

then next xmas they might make the 360elite plus with built in hd-player lol

Was at his house last sat and he has his 50" plasma on his living room wall now with all wires hidden behind wall/under floor. His sky+ box and ps3 sit in cupboard at far end of living room. He also has a sky eye wire going to the bedroom where he can control sky.

Anyways he txt me last night to say he's bought a wee box which lets him split the ps3 output signal to run to the bedroom on the coax cable he uses for the sky eye. Now he can take the ps3 controller to the bedroom and play it on tv there and the actual console is maybe 30ft away!

AWESOME as far as im concerned. I might well make a purchase also. Means you can store music in one place and play through various tv's in the house.

 

PS3 are launching a 40GB hard drive model I believe next week. This I am told will replace the 60GB more expensive model and will be around £299.99 to compete with the XB360 Elite...

The best PS3 deal I have found is 2 games, 2 blu-ray, one HDMI cable and a 2nd controller for £424.99, but thats set to change next week I assume with the launch of the new console.

 

What would be the main disadvantage of having the 40gb over the 60gb one?? ie - obviously its a smaller disc but is the disc space used for purely downloading games etc???

I'm watching one on Ebay at the mo, 60GB Console, 4 Games and 2 Controllers, Docking Station, all power cables etc etc, £20 bid so far with 2 days left!

Do I smell a rat? or is it worth a punt?

 

Just read up that the new £299 version has no WiFi, HDMI or slots on it

more to do with time though. I use it for blu ray more which is quality on the right TV

I spoke to my mate who is a business centre manager for PC World and they have nothing on the system to indicate anything changing in the PS3 line up or indeed another model coming. At the moment its £399 for the base console and £424.99 with any 2 launch Sony Launch titles.

These rumours about consoles appearing at £299 with a 40GB Hard Disk must surely be false. The PS3 uses a std replacable Hard Drive and I honestly cant see how 20gb makes an extra £100 price point. Nobody will buy the 60GB model then as its only 20GB more for an extra £100 and you can easily replace the 40GB drive with a 500GB drive for £50. The PS3 even comes with the instructions on how to do this.

The original question was "Is the PS3 worth it?"

Not an easy answer but it depends what you want it to do. If you have never owned a xbox 360 or any games console , or even a gaming PC then its probably worth it. If like me you already own an Xbox 360 and buy one of these for gaming then its not worth it at all imo.

If you are going to buy any console ask yourself:

1. Do I have an HDTV or do I care about graphics?
2. Do I have wirelesss Broadband or even a router?
3. Do I want to play online games anyway?
4. Do I want HD-DVD or Blu Ray or do I care about these?
5. Most importantly, What games am I interested in?
