Basically, I get an extra £100 a week for doing the same job if I get the promotion.

The interview letter basically states what I need to do:

Belbin test 9am - 9:30am
Interview: 11:30am

Now I've never used powerpoint, but cant see it being particularly difficult as I'm used to the MS Office Suite.

Just called my team leader (one of the interviewers) asking if powerpoint will be available and that was confirmed.

He also said, "its how you interpret the question".

Am I looking into it too far?

Anyone got any tips etc that might be useful.

If your gonna do powerpoint don't go over 5-8 slides imo.....

 

Remember, powerpoint is only a visual aid to assist you in demonstrating your interpretation/solution to the task! Don't rely on it!

 

It's not the use of the package you wanna worry about, it's finding the material to present and talking for ten minutes about something - allowing a couple of minutes at the end for questions, explaining diagrams (and certainly including diagrams....) that you put up and having all your resources organised will fill up a little time.

Make sure you know exactly what you are talking about, do your research, and worry about the technical side last - provided you know how to work the package.

Your presentation should have a beginning, middle and an end, leaving time for questions as above. Make everything readable and the screen not too cluttered on each slide.

Make absolutely certain you have the presentation in at least two different formats, usually CD and USB hard drive, or a floppy disk failing that, even if you have saved it to the office network

Things that make powerpoint look more professional are:

knowing all the shortcut keys you need (b for blackout is a good one for the beginning, don't wanna wait for the projector to warm up...)

using a cordless presenter if available (and a laser pointer if not)

having a cover slide and summary

being confident and not letting Bill Gates get in between you and the point you are putting across (ie. don't let the technology get in the way of your talk)

I agree with sean on the presentation methods...

BUT, i would always put some animations into the presentation as this will detract from any weaknesses in your material!!! (Experience from teaching, doing a degree, masters and PGCE!!! sad or what??).....

As regards diagrams... use process diagrams available in word (under > Insert > diagrams) I am sure there is a way u can adapt these diagrams to get a point across.. e.g - use the cycle diagram to illustrate a critical operational path that is being broken/disrupted by poor practise etc.....

Seems like a prime waffle opportunity to me - he who waffles best, wins!!!

hehe Belbin, I went on a 2 day course to do the marking/interpretation of that.

it's actually quite good. I'm an activist, lol

 

it probably doesnt HAVE to be PC related - you could pick on a softer "people" type problem that causes issues, eg time keeping, illness etc..
