Default 1/4 mile dilemma

ok im a bit confused

was dragging today, clutch was fooked so i had to take it easy off the line but half way down my yoke picks up like a right mo-fo as the turbo is really coming on strong (gt35 on a 4x4 esc coz), is it possible to have a higher top speed at the finishing line but be slower than the next guy whos speed over the line is less??????????????

embarressingly slow at 12s, did 11s last year on less spec but the cutch set up isnt right
another factor is that the qtr track we have over here has very little run off, it has 50 to 80 yards and then the road swings almost 90 degrees to the left, i was braking at or before the line as i felt i was after gathering serious momentum and would not be able to stop,

what confused me was that the others who were half a second ahead with less bhp didnt have as big an issue with the run off area

all about the first 60ft Thats where you make most of the time on a 1/4.
What clutch set up are you running?

we had a twin plate in there but when i arrived to colllect the car it was just too hard and we werent able to select gears, i had driven 14 hours to collect it and we had to put some other clutch in it just to take it home for an event yesterday sunday, it was only a single plate and with the horses it wasnt biting at all off the line but it was fine once i hit third, then the turbo came on big time but then we have this dreadful corner 50 to 80 metres after the line so i was braking on or just before it as i was after gathering so much momentum, so my times you say were fucked because of not getting off the line quickly enough ????????????

Yep, the first 60ft is VITAL, every 0.1 sec you loose/ gain there is worth 0.3/0.4 towards the end of the 1/4

Are you running a hydrualic conversion or still on a cable clutch?

Your terminal speed will give an indication of your actual power and whether or not your car is set-up well for the 1/4m (as in response and power / torque curves) etc. If you have the right terminal, the time will come with appropriate set-up and experience. I can achieve fairly consistant 1.6's to 60ft.

Just last saturday I went to quarter mile with my esc cos 4wd and I first made 1.7 60ft and 12.0 quarter and 116 miles then I tried again and I made 1.6 60ft and 11.7 quarter and 119 miles so defenitly the first 60ft are the game but then you need a strong gearbox, clutch and differentials to hold everything together!

i dont know what the 60 foots time was / is as this wasnt a santa pod style thing as in the breakdown of different timings , they just give 0-60 which was a paltry 4 seconds and then a 3.7, it must have been down to the clutch then
still running cable as this is why the twin plate wouldnt work properly i expect, engines 540 at the hubs and its an r and d 6 speed box, must get a proper pedal box and change it to hydraulic

Give Martin Hadland a call at Reyland, I bought a centre push hydraulic conversion and twin plate clutch off him at a good price Don't need a pedal box either, just converts the normal pedal - Twin plate with a cable must have been like trying to push the car off the floor with your left leg

so your 2 wd ran a higher terminal speed but slower overall????????????, thats what i was kinda getting to at the start of this thread, if ya want to see the cos sideways at the finish line and the barrier demolished and how little run off space i had then check this out

www.midnightclub.ie
then check out thread named "sleek fx aftermath" page 6 or 7 and there is a pic of me completely lost and a demolished fence

really put the shit up me

its all in the 60 foot

if you cant grip/darent use the power/waiting to spool your fecked unless you have incredible grunt top end like large turbo/nitrous/revvy engine

it was quite funny watching a scoob race a mk1 escy at the weekend escy spanks him scoob gains on him a bit when it spools........too late though

saw that 9 second scoob too which is insane, dead slow off the tree then boost kicks in the car sinks to the ground with the power and its gone
