Hope you all can help.

I have a 1997 Ford escort si, which is GREAT fun to drive when its working fully.

But at the moment its seeming to be a bit rebelious. And im desperately searching for help,

Basically.

My Temperature guage stoped working shortly after having an engine mount replaced (the one at the back above the clutch housing) now i know before i took it in there where two wires hanging down under the air box not plugged into anything, which where like it ever since i bought the car.

THe symptoms include,

with the ignition on but engine off the temp guage would go to max red. and with the ignition on and engine on it would go as stone cold as it could.

Its had a rough idol since forever( pre engine mount change), and it sometimes decides it wants to idle as high as 1500.

Now i found the two wires which were plugged together and unplugged them and this stoped the temp guage going flat out red with the engine on. but it still no longer works and now just sits at cold all the time.

I still get a horrible burning smell from the car after drives that exceed 20 mins. its an electrical burning smell.

Also, whilst trying to prevoke the engine in to telling us which sensor was at fault for the temperate guage we discoverd that.

We could unplug the air flow sensor, and the air temp sensoor ( the two on the black plastic ducting leading onto the engine i assume thats what they are) and the engine runs no different. Exactly the same,,,, now ive been told it should start to cry or just run like nails without these pllugged in as it dosent know how much air its being fed with.

the car goes well, BUT ive had people in the car who have had the same model of car before, and assure me it should go a lot better.

please anyone any help!? what is going on?

sounds like youve got a serious wiring prob there mate.

the poor running could be idle control valve and it sounds like you thermostat sensor is shagged i would try and find out where the wires go and get it sorted if you can smell burning then something is burning trust me.
if you dont know what your doing get an auto electrician but they are pricey

yes unless there is a sensor fucked cant remember witch one
