For a YB?

Do what Richie has done, standard engine basically, plus a T38 and a remap.

Nothing mechanical really needs changing at all, although a bit of head work and a slightly hotter inlet cam arent a bad idea.

Here's some details and graphs from my engine. But 400bhp is actually quite easy to get if you have good condition standard engine, if you want over 400bhp and you want it to work properly, that costs money.

I wouldn't bother with a T38 for 400 bhp, i'd go for a T34.63 housing, will be slightly lagier than the .48 housing but mapped properly should see you close to 400 anyway... some Grey injectors and a nice 32 psi peak, holding about 29 makes a nice road car..

T38 is quite laggy, did you see my RR Graphs??

No, they need to have the equipment required to blow the chips for an L8.
But if you swap to autronic or similar, than anyone who can map, can map your car.

I suspect you could get a chip from stu though for such simple requirements, and then have it setup by someone over there who knows what they are doing.

Mark Shead did that for cossie rich off here using one of stu's greys chips.

Thats not my expereince of the TT38, great turbo, but NOT like a T3 for lag, in fact worse than the T34/63, your mate obviously had something wrong with his previous setup that you are wrongly attributing to the turbo IMHO

Agree with chip 100% NO-WAY is a T38 quicker spool up than a T3

Mine mapped on Autronic...now image a T3 graph compared to that or a T34.63

Chip-3Door Chip, Richie use's Siemens 83lb's not greys.

I have to agree though it is a nice spec for 400bhp. Not straining the balls off a T34 to get the power either.

NO

Get a chip posted to you from stu.

install it yourself

put it on rollers, set optimum fuel pressure, det check it and globally adjust timing if needed.
