engine condition?
whats the best way to find out if your engine is still in good nick? would it be a compresion test or are there other tests needed.
I have an oil leek (bottom pully) and have a slight wory over the H/G
Have been quoted 250quid to fix the leek and may need a h/g too .If the engine is still in good condition then i will get it done but if there is more to do then it would be best to tackle it in one go.
I am wanting a t34 and a bit more power next year you see

Oil pressure gauge is essential on a YB imo..this is a good indicator of bottom end health....Do you get blue smoke? If no then piston ring will be ok...do you get white smoke?..An indicator that the headgasket has gone..or leaking into oil...Compression test is also a good idea.......HTH
no blue smoke Phill, but i lost a shit load of water a month ago.5Liters to be exact on the way home from Croft.Fixed the leek but it cant of done much good.Slight wite smoke on start up for a min ,and had to put 200ml of water back in this morning.
Slight white smoke probably was condensation....Regards to losing water...if it got too hot it would have seized....but this does ten to fook head gaskets...make sure oil has no traces of water in it...if its leaking out the block aslong as you keep water in not too much harm can be done!...Have a look for the leak on the back side of block exhaust side!
EDITED to say..the oil leak again unless pouring out aint a major worry aslong as you regualary check oil level!
