Default oil cooler question...

do you have adjust your oil pump to run more oil pressure when running an oil cooler..?? and does extra oil would need to go in as a result of the extra capacity..?? the oil cooler sandwich plate im using has a thermostat so it doesnt run out to the cooler till its gets to 80 degrees-ish... bit worried there's gonna be too much in there if i add any more..!!!

Oil pressure will drop slightly once the stat opens, about 5psi on my xr2tt.

No pump mod's needed.

And yes you have to put more oil in. Run it up till hot, then let cool, and check level, and top up.

Depending on the position of the oil cooler you need to be very very carefull to know how much extra oil is needed. As too little oil in the system will lead to oil starvation which will result in a worn big end/crank/turbo.Regards,Micky

also as your engine is new and oil pressure needs priming before 1st firing up, make sure you fill the cooler itself with oil as much as you can then bolt it back on to the wing, otherwise pressure can take a bit too long to build up if the cooler is dry

Is best yes, but wont open quickly, it will be slow.

Car running @ say 1500 rpm is safe to run up even was next to no pressure.

So safe to run up till hot and stat open, than add 1/2 litre of oil.

let cool, and sort oil level.
