Default Import Duty.........

Does anyone know if you have to pay import duty and vat on used car/bike spares?

YES, Import duty is applied to anything new or used.
The rate of duty differs depending which country it comes from sometimes it's zero.

Approx 4% from U.S.A then V.A.T on top.

Get them to "GIFT" wrap it as there is NO DUTY on gifts!!

there is mate

all my parcels from states come as gifts

but what they go on is the price of the contents

so anything above a certain amount then you will be stug for import duty


so the bloke at parcel force told me as some i get through others i get stung

Yes ive had a few things that have been marked gift and not had to pay but the company im dealing with in America have said they never mark as gift as it affects the insurance.

I have relations in USA so i was thinking about getting the company to send the fairings set to my relations and they can send it on to me as a gift. Surely they cant charge me if my relation wants to send me a birthday present?

Once I'ts value is over £36, as a gift, duty can be charged.

If it's sent from a private address, hand written label not using a contract account with a carrier, it may get through.

Remember U.K. customs have been fighting with smugglers for hundreds of years, they know all the tricks that are tried.
