Recovery Truck......

Problem is that the M5 is it's just "SO" expensive to modify......Not that I was going to do any serious modification, but just sensible ones.....(Brakes, Suspension and Exhaust System) Just for a set of Big Brakes (Which is a weak point on the M5.....total brake fade after a couple of laps on a track day..... if your using it as it was designed for) would cost me 2k, and a decent suspension kit (Bilstien PSS9) Is Big Money. Exhaust System 2k.....and to do anything to the engine is Mega Money. So basically 5k just to have the suspension, brakes and an exhaust system.

So I'm just considering my options....but no firm decision as yet.

The M5 is a fantastic car, which is hard to improve on. But a Petrol Head is never happy with standard.....

so why go for that one Jim.

very nice car,but would cost ŁŁŁ's to get it to a good reliable spec.

better buying one already modded imo.

Wouldn't go to the same extreme as the Sapphire, would settle for Suspension, Brakes, Exhaust, and stg 3. Done the big power thing, and don't regret doing it. But would want something sensible that I can have an interest in.

Sounds like a hint at something Dave......

I'm in no rush......if I see something that tempts me then I might have to make a decision, but totally happy driving around in the M5 at the moment. Itching to do something too it, but the cost to modify these things is horrendous. I could buy a 400bhp Cossie Engine for what it would cost me to mod the Suspension, Brakes and Exhaust System on the M5. Still one hell of a car though, and I'm not entirely sure I want to get rid of it. Like I said, "Just testing the water".

National Day could be a good opportunity to see what's around.

not just get a cheap track day car Jim as you can use the bmw as an everyday car,not the same with a modded cosworth.

hope you find something Jim.

how can you have done what you did with thinking that now Ryan, that must have crossed your mind when breaking it,if it did, then why break it.

get what you want bmw wise etc....then try it,then decide.

the 3dr i can do again mate, nothing on that car other than the wheels i couldnt get again tommorrow pretty much, just got to know where to look.

3dr was far to over specc'ed for a road car, and wouldnt have made a nice track car either as it wasnt caged so it was kind of an odd ball.

would have been like to look at but i can imagine not particually nice to drive with the hard suspension and stupid horsepower.

So decided to give the unicorn to someone else.

I was looking at the M3 as well then Lotus Esprits, M5s, 911s
just that although my Escort cost me a fortune and many a stressed night
I now have a car in the garage that never needs work done to it...

Feel like someone stole my Hobbie

Don't get me wrong.....the M5 is a fantastic car, and I'm really pleased with it. The main problem is that BMW Motorsport, didn't leave much for the Petrol Head in us, to improve on. Brakes are the achilles heel of the car if you want to do the odd track day. Suspension is Ok, but can be improved on. Exhaust system is quite restrictive, and the easiest way of releasing quite abit of power (Relatively Speaking)...which leads on to a re-mapped ecu. No big gains to be had like on a Cosworth, but an improvement over standard which will take you to a genuine 420bhp. The nice thing that I've noticed is the instant throttle responce, after driving any cosworth (Even a standard one) the return to a powerful naturaly aspirated car is rewarding. I do miss the surge you get from a turbo though.

It's these two pics that keep me lovin the M5 though........

Decisions Decisions......Non made yet, I might still take the plunge and upgrade the brakes, Suspension, and Exhaust System, but it's so damned expensive......5k to get it stopping properly, handle slightly better, and a 20bhp power gain......I could build a 400bhp cossie engine for the same price......

I guess I'm just missing that tinkering around that you do ("Have to do") with a Cosworth.
