Well, I said I'd get some pics so at the expense of looking like a fookin tourist here they are

First we'll start with this pic. This is two blocks from where I work.
Who can guess what movie it was in?



Across the street from the Pizza shop is this handball court (that's a hint lol) Who can guess what movie this is from? (another hint.. it's from the late 80's)

Ok, onto the WTC pics.
I don't have an airplane or chopper to take aerial shots so street level pics are going to have to do LOL.




This is taken from across the street where that old church was that was untouched.



There used to be a big Archway that said World Trade Center and under that was the stairs to go down to the first sub level. That Archway has now been taking down and that entrance has been closed off

Looking to the left before you go down this is what you see



These are the stairs you walk down to get to the first sublevel. The blue wall on the far end is where the other entrance used to be, now it's closed off and a wall was put up.



Here is the first sign you see when you walk down the stairs.

Still on the right side I turned around and took this pic. If you look straight ahead those are the stairs I first walked down. Also, For those that seen the movie World Trade Center with Nicholas Cage, this is the floor they were in when they were collecting supplies and it collapsed.



Behind me (from that pic above) are long escalators that goes down to the second sub level.
This is what the second sublevel looks like.






Still in the second sublevel under the WTC sign you can see the escalators I took to get down there (actually there are two sets but nothing in between them ATM).
You can see people walking down the stairs to the third sublevel section. This is where the actual subway trains come in and leave from. I didn't get a chance to take a pic of that because when I went down my train was there and was about to leave!



When I come out across the river I turn around and this is what I see & at the same time...



I tried to get better shots but they have small netting covering everything so the only way to get any pics is if you stand back and take them.

Hope me being a tourist and taking pics was worth it LOL.
I'll try to take some from the last level where the trains come in sometime this week if anyone is interested?

Tabetha, yeah I know.. People always talk about places like they live there or heard from a mate or TV.
I actually see that above everyday ok.. Monday through Friday LOL. I've seen it before when the buildings where there, while they came down and now the way it looks. In the last couple of weeks there's been a lot of changes! I now wish I took pics before they started all the building
Oh, just an FYI the first Sublevel used to house a Gap, a Chemist, HSBC (my bank and I have a withdrawl slip from Sept 10th!) and other mall type stores. I'll keep taking pics everyonce in a while to see the changes.

Bens Pizza was used in the film MEN IN BLACK and also in BIG (Tom Hanks), as was the courts opposite - they were the handball courts used in the film BIG

I know this as Erik gave me the tour when I was there last year I took EXACTLY the same pics too (cept they have renovated the courts now compared to when I took pics - will post later when I am home and not on a 28k dial up at work )

The WTC PATH entrace looks WELL different to what it was in June '06 when I was there Those pics bring it all flooding back to me - and I really miss being in NYC!

Erik, I can be at yours next weekend, so get the spare room ready

 

Seems really weird looking at it now. The last time i was in NY the towers were still there and dominated everything. I have the pics i took from the top of one of the Towers somewhere but i cant find them.

I knew I should have put anyone can answer except for that scrubby long haired metal head bastid Thrush!

They're actually starting to build up the foundation for the new Freedom Tower. There's been a LOT of construction and everyday I see more and more stuff covered up. You used to be able to see clearly into the pit area now there's blue walls and netting making it hard to take clear pics.

I'll try to get some more pics and update this once in a while for you guys.

Trying to talk the missus into going over to New York but she's not keen on the flight

Just one of those places you have to go in your life time

 

My first ever flight was the NY - so if I can make my virgin flight a 7/8hr flight, then she can do it easy

I thought it was okay - dozed a bit, looked out the window a bit, read half a book (other half on the way back) and watched a couple movies.... Sure it was a tad boring, and I'm not the type to get up and walk round unless I really really have to (I never used the loo the whole way there - I HATE using public loos (in fact any except my own!) let alone one in a plane ) but it was ok....

Flew back in upper class, so that was a treat - bigger, more comfy chair, better service (tho to be fair to the younger stewerdesses in coach on the way out, they were pretty good and nice girls) and more relaxed as it was a night flight

I strongly advise if you are going there, get a night flight for the return journey! Mine left Newark Intl (New Jersey) at 21:45, but when we landed in the UK (Heathrow) it was 09:30 - so if you can sleep most of the flight back, when you wake landing, you've virtually killed the jet lag....

Jet lag when GETTING there on the hand, was a whole different matter

Tho I beat Rhys, as I managed to stay up past midnight US time Rhys managed abotu 10pm IIRC
