Ie FAO Carl, Danny, someone who takes turbos to bits...

How do you remove the C-Clips that secure the silencer ring on the front of some ported shroud inlet turbos?

It sits in a groove on the inlet, securing the silencer ring in place, and i cant prise the fucker out with a flat blade screwdriver, and barring that im all outa ideas?!

You need to give the screwdriver a good crack - you are then supposed to replace the circlip with a new one.

 

pretty much yeah, but there nowt to grab hold of, just the one side of the gap is angled a little, meaning you can exert force on that with a screwdriver etc, but the screwdriver slips before i can compress the clip.

 

why would i need to replace it? it will do nothing if the silencer ring is not there, if anything it would rattle around loose in the groove

 

It's just std practice But i'm sure u can decide for yourself how critical it is

 

what are circlip pliers?

this isnt a clip with them little holes either end you can get something in to compress it etc, tihs is just a circle of metal with a lil bit chopped out of it

Heres a pic to explain my problem, and also note the c-clip sits in a groove so cant just prise it outwards, and im fooked it i can compress itby pressing a screwdriver on the angled bit...

 

Are you using one or two (one to hold it, one to pop it), small flat bladed screwdrivers?

 

one, as only one side of the clip is at a suitable angle to get any type of grip on it

Done it! Not quite how they all describe though, its just too strong to physically do that.

But you could just about jam one in at an angle to force it away a bit and get another underneath to prize it out.

Job done, i now have a far noisier turbo

 

i was gonna say, use one screwy to lift the ring, then another to work around with

but you done it, so i wont bother

 

it wasnt quite that mate, it was the fact the obvious way to lift it didnt work

a way i expected to be a lot more likely to slip worked, just as it gave more leverage, job done

now i just got to work out how big the turbo is not sure, need a GT35 or 40 to compare it to really.

looks awesome tho, and as it that "small" i can use it on my chaser
