ive looking at them 2 mate. think small turbo have t25 but big ones have t34. small turbo struggle to tune them to more than 300bhp with out converting to big turbo gear. sorry thats all i no. great cars though i will have one some day
i have a small turbo esc cos, and had it converted to a large turbo spec, witha change of management everything! if youwant to go above 275bhp then i would recommend going for the large turbo model straight away or go for a car that has the conversion!
as for the specs/differences i cant help ya sorry!

Theres loads of options about they made T34 big turbo models in motorsport models ie no creature cumforts or lux with leather or cloth air con leccy roof etc if i was 2 buy another escos i would buy a very late small turbo model with all toys and convert it 2 big turbo spec but not old expensive way ie loom engine changes thats old fashioned now management change and a new turbo ported head uprated fuel pump and head gasket equals a very refined escort cosworth with best of both worlds m8 managements call simon at SECS the conversions are great

Small turbos were the later models and ran a different management to the earlier big turbo models, in standard form its the quicker car around town, to convert to big turb spec you'll be looking at around 2500 to 3000
Lux models were available in big and small turbo.
Common probs! minefield could be anything m8, but fuseboxes are notoriously crap, check all the electrics. Everything isexpensive so make sure you get a good one, even stupid wee things cost a fortune
chassis number should start with WFOBXXGKAB and end in 7 digits, small turbos will have this on a plate in the passenger side of the dash, viewable throught the front screen.
Iv got a buyers guide that i made up when i bought mine and i would put it up here but iv not got a clue how to do it
Will mail it to anyone if they want it

SIMBO-thannk you. Would apprecite it if you could mail it to me at Thesludge@blueyonder.co.uk. I will then put it on this site under yor name then dude.
Never doubted my decision on a big turbo cossie, price was better then as well. Had a few probs but the only real big ones are cracked wheels (racelines!!!!) caused by melted brakes!! Mine is one of the first and was only owned by ford then RGS motorsport and is a lux model!
If you do anything power wise then the biggest expense you'll have will be insurance and petrol!!! (obviously only in my opinion)
Hope this helps and good luck!

the lux denatoed a decent RDS stereo, opening rear quarter windows, lecky mirros and windows and central locking. leather was an option as was air con.
in the end of the day the escort cosworth was built as a rally car for the road, after its sucess in rallying in the 90's. Ford first built the large turbo model but as most buyers were business people, who bought them as company cars found the drive to have to much turbo lag as the car didnt do much before 4 thousand revs. this was due to the engine being detuned to 220bhp when it was sopost to run around 300. after this ford replaced it with the small turbo escort t25 which ran ford management rather that the weber management found on the big turbo models. In my opinion the later model drives like a fiesta turbo smooth off the mark where as the large turbo kicks a serious punch if modified. more like the series 1 escort. When i was looking to buy one i wanted an early large turbo model that i could modify to 400bhp, rather than buying a later small turbo model which had been messed around with ie management and turbo. As these cars are becoming more and more scarse i wanted originality. as i felt modifying a small turbo model would devalue the car more. In the end of the day mate it all depends what your after from the car if you want to go to sainsburys and take the kids out buy a small turbo model, if you want to spit flames and do some 4 wheel drifts and fast quarter mile time get a big one.!!!!
