What job do you do and how did you get into it?

 

I work on the Railway Signalling side

My dad has worked on the Railway all his life and so has my brother

I worked there a few year back, left to do other things then got head hunted last year.

Soon to be an AET (Aircraft Engineering Technician) in the Royal Navy.

im a forklift driver and training to be a forklit instructor.

kind of walked into it unexpectedly, worked in accounts before it LOL

 

lol.. probably used you once or twice for a lift home then after a hefty night out...

i applied and went to the interview... also had an interview with Rolls Royce... but missed out on that one... i was well gutted, allways wanted to work there!

 

i spent yonks doing loads of cad courses then went to help me mate one week doing scaffolding



been doing it 15 years now and cant work these computers anymore

Go about different companys servicing Fire fighting Equipment..In Bristol

Used to work in a Factory before as an Inspector, (6yrs) bored of factory life so wanted a job where im out n about which I got..

Plumber, cus my dad asked me to walk for him, cos otherwise he thought i would have ended up as a shelf stacker but been doin it since i left school 3 years now n it aint too bad. Want to get into somesort of oil rig work but dont have a clue how to go about it!

I work as a deckie on a motor yacht! Just a shame about the 2nd officer on board

I did some training, worked on a boat before this which ended up having a few major problems and then got a job on this via someone on this site that helped me out training wise and with a lot of stuff. Which, is a bit mad when you think about it, but then again it just shows you got some top top people on this site.

Mechanic and Mot tester, been doing it all my life as my old man used to run his own garage doing damaged repairables so was always out helping him from an early age.

Did drift away from it slightly welding together steel offices and portacabins in that shit hole they call Leeds, first night i was there got my car nicked ( Mk2 Cavalier SRi, loved that old thing!! ) then the second day at work some fucker stole my wallet

Worked for a couple of Ford dealerships for around 10 years and now back to a small independant garage and prefer having a variety of vehicles to work on, anything from an outboard motor to a tractor to a 45 ft long truck !!!!

DP Technician in a huge law firm....

Got into working for solicitors straight from school... went into the sixth form on a course for thickies, seeing as I thought I'd failed all my GCSE's.... turned out I'd passed em all with C grades which is equivalent to an O Level pass!

So I slummed it for a bit, pretending to be thick like, then went on work experience (at a solicitors). They were understaffed at the time and asked if I wanted a job after the three weeks work experience... of course I jumped at the chance of earning Ł40 a week in 1989!

easy job, easy money, but when you have to put the hours in, you REALLY have to put the hours in

but i love it enough responsibility to keep you responsible but not enough to get you in the shit every second

 

I was in IT for over 20years, everything from computer engineer thru to IT business consultant.

Then lost interest in computers ... they will never catch on, as I was told by the 'old' engineering company bosses!!!

I am now a Railway Signaller and love it, less stress when I go home and considerably less working hours. God help those who travel on my lines
