Default TOTD anygood,Cossie needs a setup,Graph now on page 2

Just bought another Cossie with a really old skool setup of RS500 8 inj but 8 standard blues (4x4),T35,water injection,Pectel boost controller, 4x4 i/c with modded outlet for RS500 throttle body size,7.5:1 GGR engine & GGR mapped, spoke to Alistair Mayne at GGR(as he knows the car well) who quoted around 400bhp but this was all built 9 yrs ago so quite sometime ago, only done about 25k miles since build in 1998. It feels a bit flat compared with my old 3dr which was around 350bhp, just been out & had a play with Cossie4i (Steve) on here & from 50mph up i just could'nt keep with him ,his is 2wd & about 380-390bhp from memory.

Also noticed on mine that it boosts upto 1.45bar but by 6000rpm its 1.2bar, GGR said it should run about 1.7 bar. I'm in kent so don't really want to go to GGR as its too far, i've used Paul Hills on my old cars but fancy a change.

So after all that waffle are Torque of the Devil anygood, all i'm wanting really is a boost & fuel check/setup.

Cheers Simon.

Dave cos 4x4, yes it would be nice to fit eight greens & T38 or whatever turbo would match 8 greens, a 500 i/cooler & remap but i don't want to chuck a load of cash at it tbh, not really liking 4x4 after 2wd,2wd much more fun.

Well the ACT's can't be high because the water injection is mapped to come in at certain ACT's & boost & the water level hasn't moved since i filled it up when i got it, according to GGR they spent many hours at Bruntingthorpe mapping this car so everything is setup to run with the standard i/c, a quote ''to avoid the deadly detonation,GGR recommended fitting water injection''. It only runs the 4x4 cooler as it has aircon.

Just reading through all the paper work (£41500 of invoices & i'm not kidding, all GGR & some early ones Collins) its got a Bosch uprated 150 litres fuel pump, is that the same as a 044 pump ?

Chop, i agree i would'nt choose to run a 4x4i/c, my last Cossie had a 500i/c but the guy who had this car from new until 2005 spent a fortune on it & he wanted aircon so had it retro fitted by Alpineair in London so i suppose he obviously instructed GGR to keep the aircon & that limits the size of i/c you can fit so yes their was an issue with det with the standard cooler that why Wi was installed because a bigger i/c wasn't an option.

hi simon i not with you that you say he said there was det prob with the standard cooler surely it would be down to ignition and fueling ? water injection is a good thing if used correctly but use to combat det is a bit pikey if you ask me

but hey get it to torque of the devil let chris work his stuff

When the original owner took it GGR in 1998 it had a misfire, the engine that was in it was from an RS500,everything 8inj T4 etc all fitted by Collins engineering at 6 months old at a cost of £7k . The bill from GGR after diagnosing the whole engine was scrap & building a new one incl mapping & water inj etc was £10990 & that was 9yrs ago so i can't see it being a pikey job

AS for Torque of the Devil,
Chris is good and has the experience and knowledge, Along with one of the Best RR's there is. , which gives true figures, and you get AFR, boost, bhp, lbft fly and wheel graphs.
And he wont take your money and push you out of the door with a over fueling, badly mapped car like EA.
But check he has the software to remap and fully setup your car, if he has then Go there..........................................

Also get a better intercooler on thier. As your just wasteing alot of bhp due to a 4wd inter.

i wouldn't go by the water level to indicate if the ACT's are high, as to many factors, inc if the water inj is working now.
Fit a ecu monitor or a ACT gauge.

Yes.

That answers your question without any waffle.

To add a little waffle though: the owner is a total petrol head and [imo] Chris Todd is a very humble and modest legend.

Normally these threads get lots of different people replying with try "X" or "Y" tuners instead. They are the ones that put the camp into tuner camps.

There are other great tuners and I daresay Chris would be the first to say that! But you asked about Torque of the Devil, try them and I bet you won't be disappointed

The standard pump flow 168 litres so unless this one does it at a higher pressure its actually a downgrade. 044 flow 200+ litres

Heres what Bosch quote for the flow's.
All as new, with good fuel supplie, and full 13.5 volts at pump.

A std cossie external (941) pump will flow 3.1 ltr/min, 186 ltr/hour @ 5 bar
A 044 pump will flow 3.7 ltr/min, 222 ltr/hour @ 5 bar
A 044 pump wll flow 3.25 ltr/min, 195 ltr/hour @ 7 bar

i've tested both std cossie, and 044 pumps, and they all flowed more than Bosch quote.

no mate,

higher pressure = less flow.

a 044 will do 4.4 ltr/min, 264 ltr/hour @ 3 bar.
