I've bought a car but now need tax, but obviously as i've only just bought it i only have the green slip from the v5. it says on the dvla site you need the full v5 to buy tax online?

is this true? is the reference number on the green slip the same as the one on the v5?

anyone done this before?

 

I wouldn't tax it online straight after you bought it, as the New tax disk will be posted to the registered keeper on the log Book.
If they haven't changed the owners details yet you won't get the disk.

 

just wait till your cover note comes through ,normally only a couple of days then you can tax it with the green slip

 

yeah it's not really a problem for the tax getting sent to the last owner as he doesn't live far.

wanky insurance cover wouldn't email me a covernote either
