Default Well,,, thats put an end to my biking days... lil update...

Riding home from work last night about 5.30pm i was heading up the A350 in Chippenham betweent he Mcdonalds and bumpers farm roundabouts, now at this time of night the complete bit of road is usually at standstill or very slow moving...

anyhow, as you do i was passing the line of STATIONRY traffic, when a car, about 4 cars in front decides to make a right turn...

into a no right turn junction...

there was no traffic in the oncoming lane, but i had i guess about 40 foot to stop from 40mph, i guess i got down to 20-25mph before impact... i had no time or space to try and swrve round her, she was litterally 90 degrees in the road, ont he opposite side of the carrageway so i had stationry cars to my left, and a kerb and bollards to my right...

i T-boned the N reg VW Passat estate just by its rear wheel, and promply faceplanted the rear side window...

the result was me, on the floor in fucking agony with sore bollocks, and my neck hurt from nutting the window

however, i was fucking lucky, and i walked away, well, hobbled to the side of the road!

a paramedic arrived, then the police came, then the amulance and then a traffic cop - who i have met before, he was one othe guys trying to crush our drift shitter and took great pride in showing everyone a pic of it on his phone - the cunt

nah he was a top bloke to be fair.

basically the woman (ginger may i add ) said it was here fault there and then, and the cops are going to do her with careless driving.

i was taken to hospital on a spine board, fuck me they uncomfortable lol, had a neck brace on etc. had my spine and neck checked over, then an x-ray on my back, few pain killers and was on my way by 10pm. not the ideal way to spend a friday night, but at least i walked out!

now for some pics.

this is the road and the junction into the housing estate

i guess some people dont know what this means...

she was trying to turn into this, just by looking at it you can tell your not supposed to turn right into it!

view from other side of road

you can just notice the rear wheel skid mark, then the oil and coolent pile etc

my visor after a faceplant

cant really see the scratches on the top of the lid

and, whats left of the bike... i think its safe to say its totalled...

well i guess at least that solves the question about selling it and getting a car as the wife is expecting our first child in november...

the main thing is im alive, i can still walk and didnt break my neck, and im still here to see my baby when its born.

we went to collect the bike from the recovery place and its now back at home, while i was there there was a triumph with less front end damage, and it was still rolling (mine isnt) the rider of that bike is no longer with us, so it just goes to show!

take care on the roads, and for fuck sake, listen to them ad's that say to check your mirrors - a quick glance int he wing mirror of the passat driver and this would have not of happened!

i was lucky!

Sorry but I have ZERO sympathy for people that get knocked off their bikes due to driving between traffic etc etc.

I think its so ironic on the old bike awareness advert when they had the bike going in and out of vision with the comment "now you see him, now you dont, now you see him, now you dont"

If you didnt swerve and go up the sides of cars then it wouldnt fucking happen!!!!!!!!

whats wrong with that?

its called FILTERING

and its not illegal...

i take it you dont/never have riden a bike?

Glad your ok Dan, hope the aches and pains dissapear quickly.

Initialy looking at the following pics it is un clear whether the NO TURN RIGHT relates to the 1st junction(which is obviously not a turn) or the turn that she hit you on.
Need pics showing where the sign is in relation to the 2nd junction.

I know just how pedantic some insurance companys can be with their claims procedures. Get more pics taken IMO.

Hope you see the above as constructive and hopefully your claim is settled fast

cheers andy, but IMO wouldnt the ni right turn sign be BEFORE the turning, not after?

hence its not for the first one, as thats the wrong side of the road and has no entry signs

but for the second turning

also the shape of the kerbs dictate that it wont be an easy turn.

id say the sign is in line with the small black sign int he last of your 3 pics

EDIT

the sign is on the post in the background

I totally agree with that, just because you can maybe see as your looking over the traffic at times it doesn't mean anyone else can notice you.

Atleast your ok though, she was clearly in the wrong but this is maybe a good example why bikers should take more care as it could maybe be avoided

What are you talking about mate!?!?!?!

1.) It was the womans fault.
2.) She admitted it was.
3.) Its not illegal

So you have no sympathy for someone being knocked off their bike through no fault of their own, riding LEGALLY, and due to the shit driving and lack of awareness of another driver?

Im taking a wild guess here but I bet your one of those drivers that hug the white line to try and avoid a bike getting past, or one of those that try and close the gap between you and the car in front to prevent the bike from slotting in, are you not?

Anyway, thats unlucky mate, but as said at least your ok.

surely its a dangerous practice to overtake, manouvre past vehicles on the aproach to a junction of what ever description, the fact that you were on the opposite side of the road means that a car coming out of the junction would automatically pull out into the path of you or a overtaking vehicle. by the picture it looks like a very sharp turning onto the main road and could literally be only a split second before a car etc could be in view. and to be honest and i know its wrong but anyone pulling out of that junction probably will just look to there left before accelerating out of the junction. why was the traffic stationery? was it not because the driver was trying a manouver that wasnt allowed and eventually decided to go for it.
