Next door neighbour has one, but theirs is a 92 model (i think they're the same shape as the 1990)

They have a fucking HUGE caravan (i'm talking twin axle, in excess of 25ft) and it manages to tow that alright

pretty much bomb proof as far as reliability is concerned, but they can be a bit thirsty. Don't be expect decent economy because it's a diesel. It's better than the petrol models but still nothing to get excited about

A 2.8 one is definitely a better option. I had a 1992 2.5 one for 2 years and it was absolutely gutless. I hated it tbh.

This was my one...

I use a f reg shogun 2.5 td for towing and general abuse its been the best tow vehicle ive had. Automatic gearboxs are expensive if they go! mines a manual and had noisy gearbox bearings but got that done for Ł300 been good for last 4 years

I've got a 2.8 as a tow car.

Apart from the usual crap fuel consumption, it also suffers from a common problem.

The oil seal in the diesel pump unit very often goes, causing poor running, stalling etc.... Very well documented, and not too bad a job to do, as I've just done it.

My sister has a LWB 2.8 Pajero and it pulled a Cossie on a bloody heavy trailer no bother. (Im sure the thing was cast iron )

Diff is gone on it as only one of the rear wheels drives it but knock it into 4x4 and it was effortless. Thirsty buggers tho!
