Late is an understatement !!!

Ive booked in Feb before, and been lucky to get somewhere.

Its a bank holiday weekend, and I think York horse racing is on too.... Nightmare for accomodation.

Also, it seems a lot, if not all places operate a 2 night policy. If you arent booking 2 nights, you dont get anything.

One year we didnt book, we got incredibly lucky at about 1230 in the morning, to find 2 single rooms ( 4 people travelling ) in Scarborough, and this was after phoning everywhere in the yellow pages, from York to Filey, to Scarborough.

Although dont let this put you off trying !!! you might get lucky. More chance with smaller B&B,s than the bigger hotels I think.

It isn't a bank holiday weekend.....

Next bank holiday isn't until end of August.

I assumed it was always on a bank holiday, which is why it was so damn busy.

I guess every weekend in York is busy !!!! That one especially so.

York is a great tourist place, so is always busy during the summer months.

Best thing to do is stay at a hotel in a town about 20 miles away en-route.
