Our Scottish Road Trip (56k...get broadband!)
Took a few days at the beginning of the week to take a run around the country, some of which, im ashamed to say ive never seen, even though its in my own back yard, as such!
The general plan was a tour of the north of scotland, to last about 3/4 days, we never booked any accomodation in advance, so just winged it, found a travel inn/holiday inn etc each night
So, on monday morning 4 of us headed off in out trusty wagon for the next few days, a 2.5 V6 Omega Tourer, a proper piece of shit

Had a small breathing mod before we left, just for the crack

Unfortunately... the Omega Beast decided to shit itself and go into "limp home mode" within 5miles of leaving home
Not so cool

We rekoned all was well, and it was just a sensor that had been unplugged, which meant the ecu or battery had to be disconnected for a while to let it reset itself.
So we plugged on, a few random snaps on the way to our first stop, Inverness, via aviemore on the A9.

On route, we passed a cracking little place, Carrbridge it was called, so we stopped off for some juice and a leg stretch.

So we spent a night in Inverness, not much in the way of pics due to the bevvy consumed, but it was a pretty decent night!
Next day, we set off for Aberdeen, deciding to take the scenic route, via Tomintoul (Highest village in the UK), Alford, and the Grampian Transport Museum.

AWESOME Senna Motorbike, not usually my thing, but this was stunning!

Cortina Rally car

Electric escort post van, strange wee thing

From there, we got into Aberdeen, a really nice place, nice buildings, nice people, BUT NO FUCKING ROOMS
Apparently due to shift changes on the oil rigs?

On the plus side, we got full power back on the motor after leaving the ECU off over night.

Had to stay out at the Airport, due to a lack of rooms in the city centre, turned out pretty decent, short taxi journey into the town, again, a superb night out, but not many pics
Next day, we decided on Edinburgh for our next stop, so set off at a lesuirely pace down the country, stopping off at Knockhill race track for the afternoon, watching a ferrari, single seater and Leon CupraR on track.

IMMACULATE lancia in the car park.

WTF?

Note the No Plate

Then, into edinburger for the night, again, not many pics, but had another superb night out

Finally, the un avoidable happened, earlier in the trip, we had a bad power steering fluid leak, so topped it up with water (
) to get us bye, which worked pretty well... Until it was left for just too long, and decided to pack in, just as we were for heading home!

Final trip mileage was around 550, averaging 31mpg. £80 of fuel in total got us around, which wasnt too bad.

Highly reccomend anyone with a few spare days to do the same, cheap, cheerful, plenty to see and a good way to pass the time, really enjoyed it!

Good trip, I did 700 miles up to edinburgh and then to newcastle in 2 days. A702 and A68 are awesome roads. I also stopped off at Rosslyn Chapel for a mooch - quite interesting actually
The thing that got me were how quite the roads are!

The lads i went with, one has an astra GSi, another has a C20LET Astra GTE, and ive got the S2, all of us were feart to take our fun motors (or they were already broken!), so bailed into the omega instead!
As you say though, cairngorms, highlands etc are so close to us, ive never really seen much of them before, but its amazing what we have that few appreciate!
Lamchop, we were in Aberdeen on Tuesday night, honestly, we tried every B+B in the centre, every place on union st, chapel st, all the holiday inn's in the area, closest we got was out at the airport/Dyce? Wasnt too bad though, plenty of taxi's etc.
the a9 is great we went up to ullapool a couple of years ago and it was great. and knockhill thats just up the road from my home town love it there as well anmd what can i say about lochearnhead . used to go twice a month fooking great there.
Reminds me of my road trip to santa pod for the retro cars show a couple of years ago. 3 of us in my £350 v6 omega, with my mate kingy and my brother behind in a VW lt35 van. Got there about 3 p.m. and had to wait until it opened for camping. Some aussies in a sheddy transit behind us got out and starting throwing a rugby ball about. Well predictably the ball ended up hitting various cars in the que, including a rat look vw camper van,the guy was whinging about the ball striking his rusty bodywork!
he said it had taken him 3 years of bodged repairs/rainfall to get it in show worthy condition!
Anyway, got onto the most potholed piece of grass in existence, and set up camp using my omega and the van as a makeshift windbreak. the aussies pulled out a black bin full of water and ice,and we put our crates of stella in it and sparked up the barby!
After a few beers and some supermarket burgers, the fookin rugby ball came out again and all hell broke loose.
Now,i like to think myself of a smart individual, and stood on the sidelines as the rest of em' started to have a game of "rugger".
All was well until some pikey from the burger van nearby decide he was jeremy guscott and took out my mate kingy at knee height!
suffice to say,we had to carry my mate kingy back to his van and lift him onto his bed! we then proceded to ask the pikey what the fook was going on and he said, and i quote,"i'm john smith of no fixed abode.so sue me!".

NO flights on time!
Looks like a quality trip. Me and my mates have always said we would do the same, but never have.
The other day a mate and I went up to Loch Long (near Loch Lomond) fishing - didn't catch anything though
Superb scenery and roads though
Really does make you appreciate what we have close to us.

I think that big building in aberdeen is meant to be Hitlers favorite buildings... so one of my mates told me. It is really awsome looking! all the granite is cool too.
