Will a 4x4 head go stright onto a 205 blocked 2wd ok? I know the thermostat housings are different and there will be an oil feed to block off, buy what about the cams?

I didn't mate, Simon did it when he had the car. It does overread a little though. The car idles at 800 rpm or thereabouts, but the tacho reads about 1300 rpm! No biggie though.

4x4 heads don't have a provision for a turbo damper, so if you have a standard one, you'll probably need to look at one of the spidery ones from Bailey.
Your cams should fit fine

i dont like the look of my std item
as for the match in heads between the 205 and 200 blocks
they are all interchangeable a 4wd head will fit on a 2wd 205 block
and a 2wd head will fit on a 4wd 200 block.
thermostat housings can also be swapped
the 4x4 head i am sure of has revised porting to get the 224bhp from factory as the 2wd only made 204bhp. i would go for the 4x4 head
as more development has been put into it over the 2wd item,
better porting,cooling jackets blah blah.
not sure if i have read all the above currectly but i get the impression that you want to use your 2wd cams in a 4x4 head, (i may of got it wrong)
the 4x4 head is indeed a better revised head over the 2wd but the cams (if they are 2wd cams) will not fit into the 4x4 head as the cams in the 4x4 head are longer.

from memory the 2wd cams will not fit the 4wd head but the 4x4 cams
will fit the 2wd head with the aid of a spacer you can by from anywere
that deals with cosworth parts.
its something like that but dont qoute me on it.
tabetha should know the story

Cheers peep, the reason I was asking was that my 2wd head is jiggered and 4x4 heads seem to crop up more often (and at better prices) than 2wd heads do.
Managed to find a 2wd head locally for £350 anyhoo so its all good
Cheers for the answers folks!!!

Well I was goning to, but i've been gazumped.
So the hunt is on again!!
So, to clarify, if I put a 4x4 head on my 2wd car, can i use the 4x4 cams without any bother?
Also, if I bought a bare 4x4 head, would I have to hunt down a set of 4x4 cams to go in it or would the 3wd cams fit?
Ta

Another thing.... Why are traders so reluctant to part with their stock? Phoned every phucker and all of them said "yeah might do mate, phone me back next week"
Bollocks to that!! Surely they should all know what stock they've got to sell?
If it were me, it'd be "yes mate, got one gimme your money"

Just rebuilt my 2wd 205 block with a 4wd head used the 2wd thermostat and the 4wd cams no problems, just had to block off the oil feed next to turbo and use one from the block as on 2wd.
Shes running a treat
