Default THREATS TO THE PF MEET

i have been sent this email can anyone confirm if there is any truth in the fact the sea front is going to be pedestrianised?

also does any one know who is ripping off our ideas?

SAFFEND SEAFRONT
Blimey, it’s all goin’ on darn saffend way…cockles and muscles, gaw blimey guvna n all dat malarky! Just who IS running this gig – first we KNOW it’s Ashley coz we get a dodgy print-out handed to us in the pub, then I read the Southend Standard the next day with an article sayin’ Phil (nice pic Phil) from SIDC as it reads…local car club chairman Phil is working with the police to organise the monthly event. From what we know it's all down to Ashley - he's been speakin' about it for donkeys. He already told us there’s a ton of things planned that night what with the seafront being closed off and marshalled. It’s for sure happnin’ and my other source tells me that soon the main drag’s gonna be for pedestrians, the gates are coming back and it’s resident card systems all the way! So no more saffend seafront cruises other than marshalled ones. The first one kicks-off in November, we’ll be down there and we’ll send a report.

what do you think peeps

well if it is true which i think its not as that would cause complete traffic nightmare if it was in the echo may have been a possible idea but thats allbthat road is a main way of getting to shoebury so cant really see them stopping it

They announced similar plans about 2 years ago at Southend, but said it would have to be done in stages and depended on public opinion. Fitting the gates were the first step and then the work seemed to stop.

There was always talk about completely pedestrianising the main seafront, as one of the local councillors has a bee in his bonnet about boy racers.

As for ripping off peoples ideas.......... there have been various monthly club meets going on at Southend seafront for over 10 years so I think you may have got the wrong idea on that one.

yeah 13th nov is gonna be a legal cruise/show from pier to kursal, only that bit will be shut off rest will be open,to pedestrianize the whole seafront will lose the seafront traders so much money and also day trippers will have to park up here in town so that will funk things up big time, pedestrianizing will never happen i reckon

i would say the biggest threat to the PF meet would be two moonstone cossies doing sideways emergency starts along the seafront

think that might get you shut down fairly quickly...

not a dig at you especially. as a newbie, i don't know who they were. but at the risk of sounding like my dad there is a time and place for it. and the only reason anyone wants to close the front to us is because of things like that! having been "down the front" for nearly half my adult life (and funnily enough been involved in an RTA at the front with a sierra!!!) i would rather be able to drive my car down the front, see others parked up and going by SLOWLY than not at all.

as i say, not a dig, the two drivers concerned looked well in control. but what happens if a tyre goes? i have respect for the skill involved, had my share of fast cars, even done a bit of proper karting to improve my own skills.

but this behaviour will get us shut down quicker than loud exhausts and stereos!

no hard feelings, if that was anyone on here, it did look good.

lol @ it did look good

Twas only cos Grant was throwing his weight about,,,,lol

I can understand what ya saying VX220, however, southend sea front is a public place and we are unable to tell people how to drive.
We had a problem a few months back with some twat in a BMW, now it was no offence to the car,,,as I kinda like em however the driver was being a complete twat if I do say so but what can you do, if we was to go and ask em to not drive like that,,,,,will make em do it even more just to pish us off

At the end of the day, everyone who goes to these meets or any other meets for that fact, you drive under your own risk, no one elses, its your licence,,,,,remember that

So where abouts are you in Essex then??

as i say, it wasn't a dig at anyone. i know we can't do anything about others, but if you're worried about using the front for car stuff the last thing we should be doing is giving the buggers more excuses to shut us down! but it did look cool, you were almost synchronised at one point!

i'm from basildon, no vx220 anymore. i have recently "re-patriated" an S1, brought it home to essex from sunny wales! mine was the extremely dirty one just past the casino. i really wished i'd cleaned it, as the other one i saw was stunning! bird took much pleasure in telling me how clean the other one was.

anyway, no hard feelings. just my two pennies worth! how old does my moaning make me sound!? i must admit to the odd grey hair...

i've had two new front tyres, and an four-wheel alignment, it is awesome now! almost no torque steer (at least in a straight line ) and wheelspin is much reduced (again at least in a straight line, and in the dry )

i washed it last night, will. in the dark. three times before i'd got the bits i'd missed! i had to watch it, i was meeting a few mates for a little chef, and i knew the local rsoc night is held in the same car park on that night!

when we got there, i drove through the crowd, and a nice blonde waved at me. i didn't know her so we just drove through, she looked a bit confused, i suppose she'd mistook the car for someone else!

hope you find hapiness with the xr2, i had one a few years ago. good fun!

...and a vx220! not because i'm posh, but because i'm skint and bought the s1 to replace the vx. now vx is in garage, not selling! i've had no calls for it, except for one million requests from dodgy dutch rip off merchants who want to

"send me a bankers draft and get my shipping agent to pick it up"

do they think i'm a mug?

I'd like to say something on this thread, if I may.

Coming from Hampshire [where we prefer the Queens English to the Dot Cotton style which has been adopted in Essex] we have a taste for the finer things in life. Boating, cocktail parties, hunting and hitting poor people with sticks, to name but a few.

Once a month, I do my bit towards breaking down the ladder of social tiering and make the journey to Essex.

I don't expect much, cheap tea and donuts, a few bleached perms and the odd Ford Probe with neons, but I do draw the line at certain activities that go on.

This sideways launching is neither big nor clever. It is dangerous to both the driver, the passengers AND spectators. No matter HOW good a driver you are, you cannot guarantee that a tyre won't burst; a diff won't lock; a propshaft won't break loose and dig itself into the ground and flip the car over or a small animal could amble in front of the car and end up as wildlife soup.

Here in sunny Hampshire, we like to drive sedately, in a controlled fashion. Any wildlife that may get inadvertantly killed, is scraped up and fed to the hounds.

And as for Top Gun style drivebys at 80+mph... nanny used to take us to the train to prep school and she never went over 20mph and we were never late. I just don't see why you need to do it. We know your cars go fast because we looked at the shiny bits under the bonnet, some of you have dump valves too, so your cars must be REALLY fast.

So in summation, although you are towards the lower echelons of society, there is no need to continue to confirm the stereotype with these displays of machoism. If you must, try bare knuckle boxing or cock fighting.

And as for sideways launching, would some PLEASE buy my fucking ropey old S2 so I can get RWD

P.S I'm from Lewisham originally, where if you had shoes that matched everyone thought you were posh

....that filled up 5 minutes.
