Default LCD/Plasma Tv's

Right, im currently in the market for one.

After reading a bit of info, and actually seeing one on blu-ray im pretty 100% sure i want a true HD TV, non of this ¨hd ready¨ shit that people pass off as a proper TV.

So with this in mind, what are some good TV's out there?

Im looking to spend around £1500, and looking around 40-46¨, certainly dont want 50¨, i would rather have a 40¨ with better quality than a shit 50¨

So its gotta be true HD 1080P

I really really like the look of the pioneer plasma, but there not even True HD, which is a shame, and cant seem to actually find if they do a LCD variant or a true HD version.

Also regards contrast, is the higher the contrast number the better i.e is 3000:1 worse than 150000:1?

Cheers

Ryan

Pionner or Panasonic... proper screens

Have one of each. Both good... but REALLY love my 43' Pionner... Piano black sexy surround. Panasonic 42' is Silver and a bit gay looking

Just about to upgrade to a 60' Pionner Plasma... will order it next time I get drunk I think

love the look of the pioneer, best looking TV there by far, but its not 1080P, its only pont 768, so not true HD.

Think you are looking at the wrong one mate. Mines 2 years old now and is 1080i... the new one I am getting is 1080p

oh and on 1080i on BlueRay, SKY HD and HIDEF DVD the picture is STUNNING.... I can't see how much better 1080p can be really!!!

And yes I am sad enough that I have all 3 HD formats....

The only thing that pisses me off is the the Pionners now have built in media boxes... mine has a seperate one which is alot easier for connectivity if you have it flush mounted on a wall like I do...

Great TV the Pioneer though everytime I look at mine I think... 'ooooh sexy'

Then I think, should have bought the 50'

The Panasonics have cooler stands if you are floor mounting and I think the new ones are black and not silver too.

Here is the new 42' Pionner you should get I think... as you can see 1080p mate.

Thats the TV ive just bought approx 1 month ago and gotta say it is awesome.Doesnt have screen burn issues etc and the older model had a menu that told you how many hours you had watched it for so after 200 hours you could adjust the colours up etc but mines dont have that so they have completely removed the screen burn issue with mines ie has the better screen fitted that they are about to fit to the generation 8 models.

Go for it m8 you know you wanna

The Silver edge is the built in Media box and Tuner....

The one is shop was probably older model with seperate media box.

lee upon closer inspection that pioneer isnt Full HD,

Resolution 1024 (Hor) x 768 (Ver)

or is that because its a 16:9 screen and thus the resolution spec's are reversed?

good im conufsed

Coming to the end of my limited knowledge to be honest now Ryan

What about this one then? 50' and deffo 1080p isn't it?

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/eur/product...0EX/index.html

Think its £4k though... so the 60' I was going to get is not 1080p and true HD then???

ooops think you just saved me £5k... ta mate

basically the Vertical resolution has to be 1080 for it to be a true HD TV.

and then obviously progressive to be the best picture.

quite a difference between I and P, when watching high end DEF stuff or blue ray.

Really? have you done it back to back as honestly the 1080i's that I have are sooo good.

Renton has same Pionner as me and has seen a 1080p and said it was inpossible to tell... but maybe it was not actually a real HD one either then!

Its a Jungle out there

oh lee, seeing as i've just saved u some cash, i'll take the old pioneer as a thank u

so im still stumped as to what to do, as non of the low end pioneer stuff is true HD from what i can see, only the top of the line stuff.

but thats basically because the pioneers are plasma rather than LCD

Think i've found the Tv i want after much search and alot of research, i did want a sony LCD, as i've always been overly impressed with sony products, but upon looking at the new bravia range i didnt like the look of them.

Then i stumbled across the X range in the Bravia Series! OMG! pricey but found it pretty cheap on the net.

FULL HD 40¨ LCD, and very very pleasing to the eye.

KDL-40X2000U

yeah i've heard loads of things about the bravia, and TV of the year awards ETC ETC, trouble is, you cant often see them back to back with other LCD's

like in the shop they'll spread out the HD Tv's.

Was actually funny yesterday went into comets, and they probably had 50 flatscreens there, and i said to to the guy where are your HD TV's, he looked at me funny and then said behind you sir, i said which one, he said all of them, i said ¨you what?¨ there all HD tv's, upon that i left him and looked for myself, out of the 50ish TV's only 4-5 were acutally HD Tv's

all this HD ready shit plastered over them to make people think there HD Tv's.

think its quite bad actually, and a stupid marketing ploy.

Yeah i know but if people get mugged of by it then let em

they should do more research.............I went for the W series as it supports 1:1 pixel mapping and 1080p over the VGA/PC input which the X series doesnt other than that they are the same pannel (minus the floating glass)

get onto avforums they will set you straight. must stress depends on what you want from the Tv more than anything though!

in some respects a 720p plasma would be better for example if you watched standard def/dvds most of the time................but we all know thats for gypos :DD: ;)

pop round if you want and we can sort out the headlamps and you can take a proper look at one

not fussed about it having a 1080P input via VGA/PC input mate, i have a 23¨ TFT for the mac, so dont really need to run anything through that port.

But will look into it, obviously i will be using it for high DEF stuff, i.e Xbox, PS3 and blu-ray

I do watch TV at night, but to be honest, it wouldnt bother me that much if the picture wasnt ¨as¨ good as my old Sony CRT, as it more than makes up for it when playing High DEF and blu-ray.

Can hardly ¨pop round¨ can i, your 150 fucking miles away

sure you want LCD?

I compared bravia's when looking for a tv at xmas and ended up with a 42" plasma Panasonic Viera. It was sat next to the sony in the shop and IMO was MILES betetr picture!! Less than half the price too

I far prefer plasma to lcd and especially for watching sport

If you go 42" and need a wall bracket PM me...

chops, were they both playing the both signal?

also in what way better? generally plamsas, if good quality will give a slightly sharper picture.

yes both same picture so guess same signal. The picture just looked miles better. Colour for starters. Sony looked dull and pale viera in comparison was bright and full of colour. Also the sound on the viera is very good. Whole bottom of tv is speaker and you barely need any volume to hear it. ie you could crank it much higher for music in the hous etc.

Ryan, whats 150 miles between mates :top:

reason for mentioning the vga is i run my macbook in 1080p through hdmi then my ps3 through hdmi and still have a spare 1080p free over the vga for a 360 etc ;) ;)

chop reason the plasma looked better is per my previous post, all depends what you feed it.

720p plasma will shit all over a 1080p LCD for standard def as its closer to the plasmas native res ;)

yaeh see what u mean, but i guess if its not wall mounted its easy to changed the 2 over.

plus i dont think i would ever need to run my mac on there, and if i did it would only be on a temporary basis, so for that i would only need to pinch 1 of the HDMI slots.

where as u may use yours more often as yours is a notebook.

Havent seen the x series in a shop to look at yet, might see if they've got on in the shop down the road, if not i'll go into town tommorrow into the sony centre to see what they look like in the flesh, as i do like things to look nice aswell as perform.
